I set up another one...
For quite some time now, businesses and individuals on both sides of the huge divide that is affiliate marketing and domaining whilst living in their own seperate worlds have been meeting in the middle to purchase domains from each other, buying websites and scripts, swapping parking for affiliate marketing or parking revenues or the little sister, adsense mini sites and generally breaking down the barriers that parking companies set.
As the net has matured it's not unusual (sorry Tom) to see parking pages featuring banner advertisements and text links to CPA campaigns instead of the less than generous rewards a click through can create, the minority large portfolio holders generally win with PPC but the majority with the minority takings are still seeking new ways to do better with their domains, even large holders are leaving parking behind which may explain why certain leading market places are competing with their very own customer base these days - but that's another article.
Likewise affiliates who have been in the game for a while may from time to time find themselves with domains they simply don't know what to do with so in turn are dipping their toes into domaining and parking, some find it easy as money is money but others really don't understand the game at all. When I found myself lost in the midst of affiliate marketing in 2005, after previously being quite successful to a certain degree, I turned my hand (75%) to domaining and made an interesting entrance.
So if you're an affiliate struggling to deal with the domains you have, typically I find you may hold 50 to 100 without realising or more then join up and maybe there's a developer waiting to partner you and move forward with an idea or an affiliate/domainer/merchant/network/agency willing to purchase your asset for themselves or again work with you to realise a new and interesting revenue stream.
Or perhaps you're a domainer with several hundred / several hundred thousand domains, loooking to make and do more with your portfolio, what with TM issues and increasing DRS threats, decreasing PPC and a volatile parking future, perhaps development is a better stake than mistakenly placed ads referring to possible competitors, then you too could benefit from this community. And anyone else in the middle that I may have missed out, cross over isn't restrictive, it's enterprise.
I have been active and successful in both markets for sometime, not on a huge scale but it ticks over, some professionals and knowledgeable people in both fields still find it difficult to understand that the crossover exists and can work, but many more minds are open, so join in and let's kick crossover into touch and make headway with the assets and ideas we all have and make them work to our advantage.
