  Re: No traffic from social network and book marking sites

It helps to create content thats resonates well with your audience, for example if you posted celebrity news on digg, chances are it'll get low traffic, but if you submitted technology related content then you'll get a much better response from digg.com users, bear in mind digg.com is a techie hangout, the new slashdot.org if you will. so the point is;

"create content what is useful to that specific community".

So the celeb content should be posted on lipstick.com: celebrity news that matters to you (owned by reddit / conde nast)

Cool lipstick is a new one to me and will be handy for a few sites of mine.

You are very right there is digg type sites for every genre, so very true posting to a techie crowd could be a mistake if u got celeb gossip content

I think Stumble is a great way to market; but you have to, like everyone else have said, approach it from a social view point, and not any other. If you just bookmark your own stuff, people will avoid you like the plauge - but if you bookmark/stumble loads of stuff, and interact as a person - people will help you.

No one's mentioned Twitter yet...what are people's thoughts on this???

We have one client on FB (They did this themselves) where they get a few sales trickle through. So I am still of the opinion that the only people making real money are the social networks themselves, what do you think?
I still think web 2.0 is just another way of ripping people off (personal opinion) Were the compuserve forums a social networking platform back in 98?
I think there are a few people making money out there from social networking. Im just having trouble identifying which ones

The sheer volume of visitors available on there is quite large. Ive done a few tests and havent received much traffic. I received more traffic by not directly advertising anything at all. Whereas when I actively advertised the affiliate links I didnt receive any hits at all.

I received a better response from soft selling social activities like dating sites (if can call selling a dating site soft)

The thing is I think web 2.o is here to stay and we just have to find good ways of monetising the platforms.

Rank your lens at Squidoo and you'll definitely get a lot of traffics. Focus on other media too! If your offering services for professionals, go for a site with a lots of professional in there, answer their problems and give solutions. Then, if you want to get a quality and converted traffic, rank your keywords at search engines.
