    Hi all

Ive decided to follow the trend and join twitter.

I have a problem though, Im using photoshop cs3 to try and create a background but i cant get any decent image below the 800k limit.

What i cant understand is, how others have managed it as their background images are highly detailed.

    Can anyone offer any advice?

I use 1800px width by 800px height with a plain colour background and find that up to 300px from the left is available for your details, and 1100px from the left for anything else you might want to put on the page, export as jpg with quality of not more than 85, and remove any unused colours when exporting.

If you're still having trouble getting the filesize down, just pop it on here and I'll do it for you.

Nice, you could do with moving that red circle with the p in it over about 80px to the left, its hidden behind the T of twitter for my screen res.

    Hi Scriptmonkey

For me the logo is between the twitter logo and the links at the top.

From where im seeing it, if i moved it to the left by 80px it would dissapear behind the twitter logo.

My screen res is 1440 x 900 and after resizing my browser to 1024 x 768 then i see what you mean, I suppose 1024 is more relevant than mine

I would recommend using 1920 pixels width rather than 1800

On my Dell 24" monitor (1920x1200) the background repeats

    Thanks for the input hobbsy

What would be a universal size for all screen sizes?

Dunno if it's available to you but fireworks (cs3 and up I believe this applies to) have a much better compression setting for some reason. You'll get about the same quality but the file size will be much smaller

Maybe it would be better to have something smaller and tiled?
