I must admit that I don't really get it personally - I find twits mundane and trivial and boring, if I'm honest. That's me as a consumer (I don't want to engage with brands, if that's ok!) and if I want to find out what my friends are doing, I give them a call, at the end of the day. And I have no fixation to find out what Stephen Fry is up to this morning, as much as I really would love to meet him.

But, if it helps affiliates, I'm all up for it :-)

To be fair twitter is what you make of it my personal account Keith Bond (KeithBond) on Twitter is for the most part friends and people from the industry (which more often than not is the same thing lol) it is good for banter, quick messages and heads up about offers, new merchants etc.

I have also have couple of twitter accounts focusing on various niches which are good for getting the word out to users.

Finally one account you may find useful is Keith Bond (AffiliateBlogs) on Twitter which I set up to tweet automatically the new stuff from my Internet Marketing Blogs UK site, its set to a max of 5 per hour so even on busy days doesn't get overwhelming.

As for celeb stalking I don't see the point in it.

I agree. I am not on twitter - I don't have the time and am not interested in dribble. My sister-in-law signed me up on facebook and that is the same. I never bother to go there now. Got fed up with hearing similar things - wondering whether to hang washing out, spotted a lop-eared bunny in fairyland, who did what quiz. :td

    I like celeb stalking lol

All you need is one celeb to promote your site to their thousands of followers and just watch the sales rattle in :tup

I agree. Most people I know on Twitter have become obsessed and can sit in the pub on their iPhones tweeting... They're always fishing for a response so if their tweet doesn't get anything within a few minutes they're at it again, trying to reel someone in!

However I do realise as an online marketing bod, I should really be embracing it and not discounting just because I personally don't get it!

What Keith Keith Bond (KeithBond) on Twitter said.. It is what you make it, for me it's like standing around the water cooler in the office, sometimes you get gems of useful info, most times your just talking crap wasting people's time ;-)

I think event based things make it most useful.. A4U Europe is a good example, well not for me as I was looking forward to that one but events that played out the month before stopped that one in it's tracks for me but Twitter kept me in the loop so I could hate everyone who did go that bit more LOL

But for me it's a personal thing, you want Business join the POR one Paid On Results (PaidOnResults) on Twitter (note that all staff can update this if they want not just me), want me talking crap with the odd gem join my one Clarke Duncan (ClarkeDuncan) on Twitter .. but be warned, you might get caught up in a Euro Vision blow by blow account as me and Hannah swifty7 (swifty7) on Twitter duel it out for who can tweet the most drunken rubbish during a TV show before Twitter bans us for an hour :-)

As a highly productive business tool, it is not, but I enjoy all things Internet and while for some people it will seem odd to keep in touch with your friends via a message based system, it’s basically the phone for people who don’t like to talk to much on it :-)

    Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube =

Timewasting devices for kids and others with loads of spare time and no money.

Web 2.0 = idiots communicating with other idiots about things in which most adults have no interest.

    Why? Good question.

In my humble opiniion, of course.

I use it a lot but as has been said before it is what you make of it.

My personal twitter account is updated occassionaly and I find it very useful for getting answers quickly and finding out about merchant offers which can be added to my sites. I don't have it linked up with my phone or any other device so when i'm not on the computer i'm not on twitter.

My other twitter account I find even more useful in a way as it helps me connect with people I would never of even knew existed, find out about news to add to my blogs and generally get a feel for the kind of features people who might read my blog might be interested in reading. It's also helped generate a not unnoticeable amount of traffic & sales

Fair enough, there are a lot of people who use Twitter to update the world with their biscuit choice to go with their cup of tea. But that's fine, it's just fun and doesn't have to have a point or meaning and there is nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, personally speaking I've made loads of new friends through Twitter. I've found people who have similar backgrounds and interests, I've gained new business from it and if used well can be a fantastic way to network. I've got involved in some fascinating conversations and almost every day I learn something new, discover a new site or service and generally find Twitter very, very useful.

I know how you feel Jess, before I started using Twitter on a regular basis I didn't see the point of it at all. However once I started engaging with people on it, I've found it to be a great resource.
