Web traffic and Twitter

Hi everybody, I know Twitter helps us to bring some web traffic. But, I quite don't get how to use it properly.
Like facebook, bebo, my space or digg twitter doesn't have lots of option.
I don't know wheather I am missing something, Please help me someone on it.

One very important thing to keep in mind when using twitter is that people don’t really care what you have to say, unless you care what they have to say. Twitter is best used when accounts actively “follow” one another. Once people are following you—not passively but actively checking your status updates—your tweets become more meaningful and the traffic you generate from those tweets will likely grow.

I use twitter for 3 sites and it brings in most of the traffic to these sites. The most important thing is not collecting followers it's providing updates of interest with keywords and phases that attract that click.
