Are G+1 and AddThis links really worth it???

Is adding the Google +1 and Facebook, Twitter and other social links in your pages really worth it?

Does anyone have any stats to prove people actually use them?

And, Why not just copy paste the URL of a page if you really want to share it rather than trusting another site to post your share via an oAuth connection?

Maybe I am skeptical but I am not convinced that Joe Bloggs internet user even knows what Twitter is, nor how to use it.

do not worry, there are always some people who will share your content if you allow it. I am not sure about the social bookmarking sites but these 3 is a must have - Facebook, G+ and Twitter.

The good thing is that these 3 show how many people has already did that, so others may be more willing to share. Of course you may need to ask your employees and friends to click and share in order to show decent numbers.

I have added the links to my new site but I am not showing the numbers, it seems counter productive unless there are thousands of likes and plus ones as some people may be put off by low numbers without realizing that it is a brand new site on a new domain.

They are useful for me to share stuff i suppose.

Damn straight social media sites are worth integrating into your website. If you've genuinely cool content people will re-share it. People on facebook will often re-share stuff that they find interesting.
