    yes,

It's all about spotting niche aspects of sites. Be they blogs, forums or social networking sites.

Being specific with your message, not spamming and thinking like your target audience is the key.

Also lerk first, don't wade in.

if you've got any specific questions, feel free to pm me.

I've dipped my toe in the social arena by setting up fan pages on Facebook - and I will publish Facebook ads around these sites to drive attention and traffic.

What are peoples thoughts on this as a start to social communication?

As advertising on Forums is generally a "no no" what other opportunities are out there?

You can have lots of success with social media channels providing you know the community you are targeting. Each group has their own interests and culture and you need to be a part of that before you start trying to promote yourself too heavily.

If you go into each of these communities without a plan you'll find it difficult to gain their trust (and money)

You need to clearly identify your aims. Do you want more traffic or do you want to develop better relationships with potential customers?

Just remember, there is more to making money than just traffic. You need to know how to convert the users who come to your site as well. What is a conversion for you? Is it signing up to a newsletter or buying something or clicking on an ad. As soon as you figure out in detail what you want then you can plan on which social media channels to target.

    Great advice from Woodstock.

Each social network has its own 'community thing' going on, which can be hard to define from your first view visits. Get this wrong and you will find yourself posting articles which will never see the light of day, (happened to me on Reddit and Technorati).

Simply publishing articles isn't enough, unless they are of earth-shattering significance and even then, if you publish your own work, it seldom gets picked up and voted (or Dugg) heavily.

Better to spend time initially surfing the respective networks and leaving comments (and links). Find out whats working for the community you are surfing, and choose a network which fits in with your genre or topic.

If you find some material which makes you think "blimey I just got to vote for that", chances are you're in the right place.

Try publishing articles to PR sites, but don't forget to add links at the bottom of the article, for the networks you are targeting (Digg, StumbleUpon, Propeller etc).

Without a doubt the best way to have your material create a "blizzard" of new traffic is if it gets picked up and posted to a network by a third party.

The trick is of course, how to get third parties looking at your material in the first place.

But get it right, and you can generate so much traffic that it knocks your website offline temporarily - particularly applies to websites built around PHP (the Digg effect).

    Good luck

    Good content and profile..

Social networking sites are utilized creatively by organizations and companies to promote their business, products, or services. The main goal of social media optimization is increasing the viral traffic to the company's/organization's website. As the viral traffic increases your brand/product/company gets noticed by myriads of people from the industry. If the best in the industry choose you then you get more work. There might be prospective clients, business associates or customers who visit your site, if you increase the viral traffic through social media optimization.

How to use Social media optimization for viral traffic:

    Link building:

You can post the link to your/company's website in any social networking site. If the content posted in your website is interesting, unique and informative, it will invite many editorial links to your site. The viral traffic to your/company's website increases with the growing number of visitors, who repeat their visits most often.

    Hello Everyone,

According to me the social media marketing is all about being compactness and as being as knowledgeable as possible because nobody has time to read emails which are sent out via email marketing and tweets can be read within a few seconds and do take you to the correct destination via URL, Now lets take Facebook for example its a business place to meet contacts big time which can be with you to do some great business, and what you need to do is just to log in and you have hell lot of similar interest People throughout the world.

As I said social media is all about speed and gets you anything what you want if you do this in the correct manner.

    Wishing you all huge success

Another effectkive way to promote your web site and business is using CRM integrated tracked email marketing. If you use a CRM system like GoldMine or ACT, you can target messages to your prospects and then measure not only their email response but what they do once they get to your web site. There is a nice tool that makes this easy to do called IntelliClick (IntelliClick eMail Campaign & Web Site Navigation Tracking).

With Social media optimization you have multiple places that while you don't own them still can be valuable to you. A twitter profile can get you traffic in the twitter space. Similarly, your del.icio.us bookmarks while on the del.icio.us site still might drive traffic. Considering how link building for Buzz, the word of Mouth and SEO are melding together, I think one should need to take concrete steps to incorporate Social Media as a important element of WoM and SEO.

The scope of the Social Networking is so wide, the basic purpose of using these media are to drive attention of people of same choice or theme and traffic to your site through the groups and people.
