That is not correct. As per my experience social networking site generated lots of traffic to site.

Hi all, there are very specific techniques required in order to gain traffic from social networking sites.

Firstly don't try to sell on your page, you HAVE TO have a relationship based profile, not mentioning any products or doing any selling.

You HAVE TO brand yourself as knowledgeable and likeable without selling anything.

Basic techniques for gaining traffic via social networking sites:

Comment 10 people per day, add 10 friends per day. Do that everyday and you are guaranteed to have lots of extra traffic after a while. Apparently the average user on myspace gets 35 page views a day. Times that by 10, that's 350 people viewing your comments a day and possibly viewing your profile. Same with adding people etc etc

I used to be of the same opinion about social bookmarking sites

I rgistered, submitted my bookmarks and then waited for the traffic avalanche

And not surprisingly, NOTHING happened

Social bookmarking sites are really similar to social networking site.

You need to make friends, hang around, view other people's bookmarks

mostly on those site like squidoo you must add a lot of friends and update you Lens like 3 times a week and sync you Lens with your twiiter account so that everytime you update your lens it will also appear on your twiiter account.

Create some youtube vids and place your squidoo url in the more info part of your vid information. Make sure you put the http:// in front of the url or the link won't become active.

Check other peoples vids that get loads of views and use the same keywords and similar description and title as them.

I am totally agree with you.
I have worked on one of my site for bookmarking and i submit my site more than 200 bookmarking sites with internal pages links, but i got 4 to 5 visitors from digg and stumbleupon only. i have also no visitors from other sites, still bookmarking keeps our link on their site so we can get benefits of ranking with targeted keyword in title. so we need to keep continue that method.
