We have been using Squidoo for a while and have seen good results. Don't want to put all our eggs in one basket though - has anyone found any good alternatives to Squidoo?
We have built a list of possibilities - anyone tried these out?
HubPages
pagerank10
Mahalo.com
Zimbio
WordPress.com
Wikipedia
Oondi
SpongeFish
Tumblr
LaunchTags
Gather
Or know of any more that we have missed?

My personal favourites are squidoo and hubpages. Google is still in love with squidoo and for longtailed keywords you cant beat it. However, more and more spammy pages are appearing there, and there have been questions as to how long this love affair will last.
Hubpages is relatively new and is seeing a huge burst in popularity and is my second choice. From my experience, the pages do not rank as high as squidoo, but you can still get first page results with certain keywords in a short space of time.
You should use them all really. Every little helps, with backlinks and traffic.
blogger is still good for getting decent ranking quickly
Yeah blogger is great. If you create a lot of blogs on your niche, try Blogger Generator to help speed up the process. Havent used it myself, although I can see why people might find it handy.
I have some professionally written copy that I want to put onto these sites. I am thinking of putting the same copy on multiple sites and can then test rankings of each site on a level playing field. If any dupe content penalty comes in, only the sites hosting it will be penalised won't they so no risk there for my sites?
How many sites would you limit the content to? I reckon 10+ would be OK as some blog content is syndicated across hundreds of sites... what do you reckon?
Lee, no problem.
I am interested in the theory of this and hope to receive comments.
Theres not really much point in testing out the rankings of the sites like you suggest. Rankings of websites and the search results you get from them will chop and change, so even if you do find out which site gives you the best serps, it wont necessarily remain that way forever.
Try and avoid using the same article on different sites. Create unique articles and then use them on ALL of the sites mentioned above. Some of these articles will appear higher in the search engines than others due to the deemed authority of the sites, but you will still get handy backlinks and traffic.
yeah, i use hubpages too, also flixya is great in some aspects too :=)
and if you have any article why you dont try to use ezine articles submission ??:tup
This is a good thread!
I saw a google notebook link in the top 10 on a diet search the other night.
Don't forget about youtube.com and other powerful video websites for high PR links.
I personally love yahoo answers!!

Cool - I'll definately have to check out some of those.
Personally I've been using blogspot lately, and wordpress.com. I've found blogspot pretty good; to start with it can seem limiting but then you find ways to utilise it so it can do pretty much what you want (labels instead of categories, text widgit instead of a static page etc). Meanwhile I was disappointed that you can't put adsense on wordpress.com, and whilst they'll let you 'edit and preview' the css for free (woop-de-do), you then have to pay to make your changes live!
