I wouldn't bother with social stuff, many of that are tagged as nofollow. To get indexed, just add a robots.txt file, a sitemap ( xml or other ) and a few links to the pages you want indexing.
What is the best technique for indexing a new site in google?
I have been using social bookmarking with good success, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing.

digg
page you link to should get indexed with in a few hours
gumtree is good for getting picked up quickly .. but beware .. regular posting on there can have adverse effects on your rankings !
backlinks are a 100% must ...

I`ve always found either Gumtree or Craigslist great for getting into Google, they are spidered so frequently because of their size, you get indexed really quickly.
Most new sites I do get indexed and live within 48 hours.
Don't abuse it though, try and make your post usefull so it doesn't just fill up with nonsense, and don't post more than once or you'll get banned.
I`ve found with product sites, that although I only posted on there to get my site indexed, I do actually get quite a few sales through it, so write your advert as selling the product, but make sure you state its a new item etc.
not tried using this method, I'll give it a shot with my new sites, thanks.
Can I suggest that PR is a great way to improve your rankings.

I just write a nice article about any new site up on an old personal site of mine and find it is well indexed pretty quick after that. Its a PR 4 site - nothing special.
But once indexed, getting ranked highly is another story. Unfortunately 1 or 2 links is rarely enough these days! There are plenty of tools to see the backlinks of competitor sites, so have a look to see what you are competing with.
Getting indexed by G is as easy as placing a link on a site to yours and waiting for Dr Robotniks little spider to come by and take a peek.......
Getting ranked for terms and gaining traffic...... Well thats the 60,000,000 question aint it :sneaky........ If everybody new then I wouldnt make money because someone else would come along and take my place so Im keeping quiet :tup
Not forgeting that elusive 10% + conversion rate :drool mine is 25-30% :blush Its the way I sell em danno![]()
submit a sitemap (rankyour pages in order of preference)
link build, get those referers up
write engaging content, mix in keywords
theme your pages
pr your site offline (often overlooked!) - great point context
don't overuse flash
use social bookmarks
offer a facilty for visitors to post feedback dynamically
create your own sitemap for your site indexing all your pages, it's great for alternative navigation and may enable more users accessing your site via mobile phones.
off the top of my head.
Kind of already answered but thought I would add my two penneth!
sitemap.xml - submit and authorise through google webmaster tools, also put a reference to it in your robots.txt file, do the same with Yahoo and MSN.
robots.txt file (obviously)
social bookmarking - still useful
If you have an RSS feed then use it and submit it to google, yahoo and msn - plus many others
directories (not all of them but still useful)
stumbleupon
generally links, links, more links and more, more links!
Oh yeah and some great content!!!
