for me it does not really give that much traffic like they said it would be. I have created one on squidoo and still the bounce rate of those people that have visited my site is still very high.
but let me know if it worked on you.
Ok so we have seen a number of articles on the social networking marketing theme. Some have claimed some success some haven't had very impressive results.
Have any of you started your own Social networking sites?
I was thinking of starting my own in a particular niche and advertising directly on there. I have tried advertising on the big ones yet I have just been lurking.

if you mean hosting your own social networking site then good luck theres loads of script like pligg and Dolphin that can do this for you however they all need massive tweaking to make them SEO effective.
tip: make it niche and ensure your user base is techno-savvy or very dedicated and willing to go the extra mile to keep the content fresh
if you mean success through social media then yes ive got plenty of success however my main use for social media is propping up my organic SERPS!
I've tried posting on some social networking site too without noticable results. Forums such as these seems to be better.
i run a very niche music/band/venue site for a region of the UK. A lot of the members buy 2nd hand equipment off ebay/play. Had reasonable success, especially if you subtly remind your members to click thru a link/banner :-)
Well.. if you are sure that you'll make ur own social network site, make sure it's gonna be unique and different than the others.
Facebook decided to be unique and different and that is how it gets to be the most popular one![]()

Tee Hee,
My post is still here! I have been away for a while. I did try the whole posting on the social networking sites. I have mixed feelings as I think it was said most people use facebook etc to keep in touch with friends and family not clicking on adverts. I have had some varying reports though. Im back though with a vengance as it were.I hope everyone as been well

I believe it is articles that work best on SN ...
And even then the article has to be taken up, the best scenario is having an article taken up by a newspaper, that then feeds in to every thing, and the SN explodes..
Just plonking stuff around SN sites may not even be worth the effort until the interest reaches a certain level, you'd be better off with a viral campaign ...
Hi,
If you are looking to expand your contact base, LinkedIn and Facebook are two of the more popular services that facilitate business-oriented connections. Ecademy and Xing are also popular business networking sites.

I've built a social networking site around doing online video counseling. To do advertising cheap though, you don't need your own social networking site, you just need to communicate with users of other sites by sending messages and adding friends.
Automate your money stream. Social Marketing just got a lot easier with webDOMinator. The only Friend Adder and Mass Messenger bot that works on any social network. Get your 2 week free trial.
I agree. From an operational pov, you're better off using something like Facebook which, due to its revenues, is able to continually improve its offerings to your business (for example, the recent creation of vanity urls and FBML) at no cost to you.
Plus, Facebook has such a huge user base, its like a shop window in the world's busiest street and it would be easier to get your business in that window than try to create a separate place where you would have to keep it afloat/continually improve it to compete with other "online venues".
I believe social media marketing for good traffic.
