I have (finally) got a script working that grabs data from a mysql database and churns it out into a feed. Whats more, I've even checked its integrity over at W3C :tup

Now when it comes to blogging, I am fine with setting up wordpress to ping updates to various aggregators etc, but I just wondered if anyone had any advice on how best to market a website by means of making use of my newly fandangled RSS feed?

Also whats best when submitting feeds? Should I use my own URL or would I be best to point them to Feedburner?

Any suggestions based on experience would be most welcome.

I would make sure you use the icon on your homepage, it usually grabs peoples attention, if you search for "RSS directory" you will find a few more places to submit it.

I would send them to feedburner as well, people are sued to seeing the interface.

I would suggest routing the feeds through feedburner through to your subdomain. you might want to review mediafed's platform as well for this service. Indexing your subdomain urls on the rss search engines is important. I had asked a similar question on Linkedin and got some good suggestions. you can view it here: LinkedIn: Answers: From an Online Publisher's perspective, what are the best resources available in the market to syndicate/distribute RSS feeds?
    Hope this helps.

    I hope NOT!!:tup

OKay in terms of feed redirection Feedburner is best. Not only because it validates and updates the feed every 30 minutes and pings most engines, but because of an array of stats and options it gives to optimise and publicise the feed. So definitely go for it.

NOw couple of simple marketing points:-
    1) Get that headline animator from feedburner that'll rotate latest headlines from your blog. It can be used in your email sigs, forums sigs, other blogs etc. etc.
    2) While leaving blog comments and forum replies, use the feed address as your URL for at least a couple of months. You can start here in this forum.
