Currys, PcWorld, The Link & Dixons offline til late on 2

Just went shopping to buy a new hi-fi system and found a little surprise..

    www.currys.co.uk/

To ensure we continue to improve your shopping experience with Currys, our website will be unavailable
until the evening of 23/07/03 for essential upgrade work.

To apologise for any inconvenience caused, we would like to offer all our customers £5 off all web orders
    over £100 placed until 25/07/03.

To qualify for your discount, simply come back, make a purchase and enter SHC2207 in the discount
code box - located on the shopping basket page.

Nice gesture with the voucher - lets hope they make the site easier to use!

edit - just checked and it appears that the whole of the dixons group of websites are down.

    www.pcworld.co.uk/
    www.thelink.com/
    www.dixons.co.uk/
    www.currys.co.uk/

think I missed the email that was sent.

An e-mail was sent out - The downtime was originally scheduled for yesterday, but a further e-mail was sent at the 11th hour, informing us that it had been postponed by 24 hours.

    Thanks John,

Must admit I don't do much electrical stuff, but can't find an email - oh well, just one of those things.

I'll retract then and say good on dixons group to ensure we are informed then!

I received an email from each of the dixons group shops informing me of the down time and the £5 off offer when the new sites are up and running. Also received an email mail informing me of the delay on the downtime.
To be honest I won't miss any of the dixons group shops, they are the worst electrical goods retailer performer by far i have on my site, this has always baffled me. For example on my site the ratio for comet to dixons/currys sales is at least 25:1 and i just cant believe comet prices are that much better than dixons/currys prices. Given that i have premoted currys, dixons and comet equally on my site this will always baffle me!

Anyway heres hoping their new designed sites will increase conversion rates or perhaps their making their phone number even more obvious than it already is so people can phone in their order and save poor old dixons group paying commissions.

    Hi,

I get very few electrical sales and have found that the Dixons group and Comet convert for me better. Sent 100's of click to Empire Direct but no sale. Guess because they provide the Order by phone link clearly visible.
