Thread: Links generated using frontpage

I found this article while browsing can anyone shine any light on it. It concerns building your site with microsoft frontpage.

ARTICLEWhen creating links, see if there are and "&" symbols in the code. If there are, then if you are using Microsoft Frontpage / Frontpage Express, then CHECK THE LINKS! Some variants of Frontpage / Frontpage Express change "&" into "&" which would normally be ok, but in this case means that although the links seem to work, you don't get paid! However, a quick check of the HTML source code will determine whether your links are good.

As the above is true for almost all my text links this may explain why I generate virtually no sales through TD.
I have checked out a few sites built with MS Frontpage and there link code is the same as mine. Only some have removed the "amp;"
Can anyone tell me for deffinite if I should remove the "amp;" from my code.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

I changed over to Frontpage about 3 months ago & still use the same links as before and I've not seen a drop in sales.

However I've done a quick search on google about frontpage affiliate links and it seems there can be a problem, so I'm going to check all my links. The annoying thing is if there is a problem you can't check until you've published the page.

I've seen no problems using TD links on FP. They work and convert for me anyway

I asked both trade doubler and DGM if there is anything in this article but no response so far from TD.

THE ARTICLE AGAIN: When creating links, see if there are and "&" symbols in the code. If there are, then if you are using Microsoft Frontpage / Frontpage Express, then CHECK THE LINKS! DGM's RESPONSE
QUOTE: You recently sent an email to affiliate support regarding Front page. The article you attached is very useful and I feel it would be advantageous to let all our members know about it.

All very well DGM but you did'nt answer my question.

Will let you know what TD say when I hear

Strange response as & is actually the correct version as far as the w3 spec says: -
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Authors should use "&amp;" (ASCII decimal 3 instead of "&" to avoid confusion with the beginning of a character reference (entity reference open delimiter). Authors should also use "&amp;" in attribute values since character references are allowed within CDATA attribute values.[/quote]
the href property of an anchor is an example of an attribute value.

As an example say you wanted to link to a page 'more>less.htm'
you have to use <a href='more&gt;less.htm'>more&gt;less</a>.
Now if you want to link to a page 'more&gt;less.htm'
you have to use <a href='more&amp;gt;less.htm'>more&amp;gt;less</a>

Browsers tend to support using & on its own in hrefs to make life easier, but they don't have to, it is actually breaking the spec.
