I would like to see more but I'd love it if they weren't full of slow loading javascript. I know HTML can't be updated at the merchants side but PHP includes would be great for me.

In saying that, I know many people don't use php but it would be great to hear if there was a solution to getting content like this on sites without using the javascript versions.

What about an i frame ??

Sure loads of ways of getting the data over without using javscript and having no human contact with it other than adding in the relevant parts to a page one time.. Will get my thinking cap on.

great post QJG!

i have lots of ideas for editorial style content units etc but i have no more budget to buy these units.

I agree for my overrider, set up and in some cases monthly running costs i would like to see more technical development happening.

we all know content adds value to a users experience so bring it on!

I don't like javascript because search engines can't read the content and because some people turn javascript off/don't have it (approx 10% www.thecounter.com/stats/...javas.php)

do i frames get read by search engines? they only work in IE don't they? It's a challenge for you Supercod

Anyway don't want to hijack the topic getting into the technical side of supplying them. I do think it's a good idea though to highlight the fact that we would like more in any form!

The only problem with PHP includes is that you wouldn't be able to update them to put your tracking details in.

You would need to have a page with the content on it, with unique markers on it for where the AffiliateCode etc go and then you could use str_replace to replace the markers with your individual affiliate information.

All the merchant would need to do is create a separate page with the offers details on, that they update with the latest deals. This would also mean that affiliates who don't use PHP, but use ColdFusion or similar should also be able to process the page.

It just shows that TD have a very good promotional tool, that most of us want to see more.

Load speed with Javascript is a pain but am I stupid?? (probably!) or could the supplying trader not script it to open a new window instead of losing potential customers from the home site completely?
By the way, I'm new and this topic has forced me to come out of hiding, it's been bugging me for months!

Hi Laney,

Welcome to the forum.

You can do this yourself, just put the following in the HEAD section of your HTML -

Code:

and any links will open in a new window - you'll need to put TARGET="_top" in any internal links that you want to open in the same window though, otherwise they open in a new window as well.

Useful ideas in this thread.. Personally I love the content units that tradedoubler provide but apart from asseenonscreen, figleaves and a few others many are not updated frequently enough to warrent using them, plus they do sloooow things down.

I'm sure the lack of fresh content is mainly due to the merchant, but a proactive affiliate manager or network I'm sure could tap something together in an hour? To have content units that outdated looks bad for both parties.

With regards to *****s, I could be wrong, but as they are externally hosted you do not get any benefit from them with any seo campaign.

  neat feature

Great poll. Tradedoubler's Content Generators are the best feature on any affiliate network, alongside CJ's conversion stats. I wish there were more.

They make life a lot easier for us busy affiliates who don't have time to visit scores of merchant sites every week to update our links.

If there are any affiliate managers looking at this thread, I would just like to say how easy they are to update. You do not need to be an expert in HTML either.
Once you have the basic HTML in place, it is just a question of swapping the image and the product number and the copy.

How ever, not a lot of affiliates are making use of these content generators, I would like to see more usage.
I personally love them and I can't wait to see if I can some how link my XML feeds to these content generators, in theory we could provide affiliate with a virtual shop.

Helen, even with just two or three, it is still useful for promoting things like special offers, deals of the day/week/month or your best selling product.

I am thinking about just having some content units with nothing but text, how would this go down with affiliates?

More content generators would be great but it would also be great if more/all of the existing ones had adjustable widths. I have 3 column web pages so my content is restricted to the space in the centre.
Cheers
