Their house insurance quote was astromonical for me - but I did have to ring up to get it - which I suspect most people do... which means they probably get a lot of business but not much from the website.
Loss leader? Is that a good description?

It's not a loss leader though - I thought that was when you sell something cheap to get customers in, in the hope that they buy other things with margin.
This is simply "we are offering a high commission because hardly anyone applies online". Assuming that is the case.
From experience it is a nice lump of commission in one shot when one goes through though![]()
Its a loss leader in the sense that they can afford to be generous with commission if they hardly pay it out but get lots of sales ... can't think of a better phrase for it - wheres that affiliate dictionary?
