Hello All,
Over the christmas period we applied to Google to stop affiliates bidding on the brand terms 'Currys' & 'Dixons'. The reason for this was a number of affiliates were using these terms to drive traffic to competitor sites. Although we requested them to link to currys/dixons some partners were not responding. The only solution (as we cannot police the web) was to ask google to restrict bids on those terms only. I accept that there was an oversight on our part in not communicating this earlier, please accept my sincere applogies.
Thanks to QJQ for bringing the following to our attention. It appears a number of our respected partners have been issued a letter by Google which announces they are no longer able to bid on brand name, mispellings and other combinations of brand inclusion keywords. This was not issued by Wheel on behalf of Currys & Dixons and has been sent by Google without our knowledge. We are now working to ensure only the keywords are restricted, and will report back with all updates! This has been an error with Google as it appears that we still have affiliate listings appearing under the brand terms.
For the record here are Currys & Dixons PPC Terms & conditions:
1) Affiliates are not permitted to bid on the brand names 'Currys', or 'Dixons'.
2) Affiliates are permitted to bid on brand mispellings or brand name combinations. We recommend links go through to pages which promote the brand or deeplink direct to the brand website.
Our intentions were not to restrict affiliates in their PPC activity, in fact we welcome more partners to work with us in this area, but due to a number of partners diverting traffic we have had to enforce these rules.
If you have any questions, concerns or if you have received such an email from Google please email
hayley.read@wheel.co.uk. Hayley or I will keep this post up to date with news from google on this issues
Thanks & sincere applogies for not communicating this earlier.
