  TradeDoubler + AdWords

Hi guys, I am setting up my tradedoubler account to use text links through ads on Google adwords.

Before I do, I'm checking this is legit?

e.g. I set up an adwords campaign for products from knickerbox, so they appear on google searches, and the link appears be made by knickerbox, to go to knickerboxes website (which it does) via my TD fwding link.

is this ok??

If your display URL is www.knickerbox.co.uk
and the Destination URL is: http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?..._ID&g=16234914 (text link for Knickerbox)
I don't see any problem (I see they have Open Keyword policy)

  I thought

Google (not TD) asked you to put Aff or Affiliate in your campaign if you are an affiliate. I was told it was to ensure fair bidding by different brands (e.g. not allowing one brand to dominate...)...though it never really made sense to me

they knocked that on the head some time ago, think it was when they changed the rules so only one ad per display url was shown

If knickerbox is also running their own camapign, then one of you will have your ads blocked.
When I check Google, I can already see knickerbox.co.uk and knickerbox.com ads running.

Are they aware that you want to link directly to their site?

What happened to sales only been tracked if they originated from your site?
Is there any truth in this? Obviously if they originate from google they are not originating from your domain.

  Direct sometimes generates Traffic Error

Direct PPC using TD links generates traffic error in some instances but sales do get tracked. TD support will get that sorted if you get in touch [Ofcourse, merchants kw policy has to open etc]

There are two different issues here.

Issue 1) Does knickerbox allow you to send traffic direct to their site? If they are running their own Adwords camaign, the answer to this will be no, you cannot do it.
I see they are running their own campaign, so I guess they would be pretty annoyed if your ads started pointing directly to their site, as due to Google policy, one of these ads would be removed, possibly theirs.

Instead you would have to set up your own domain, and ensure it has enough diverse content to avoid being considered a thin affiliate, (i.e. just doing exactly what the merchant is doing and offering nothing unique).

This shouldn't be too hard.

Issue 2) Directing traffic to a site of yours, other than that officially registered at Tradedoubler, will cause referrer errors, though the sales will still be recorded normally. You can ask the TD guys to add any additional domains and the referrer errors will stop.

According to TD they have an open keyword policy which I presume means you can do any ppc direct to their site. Normally it says in the program description if they dont want you to link directly to them

Generally, Open Keyword policy is a different issue to direct site linking.

With their open Keyword Policy, they basically do not restrict the keywords you can bid on, such as their brand name, product names etc.

There are certain downsides to this, such as the fact that every one of their major competitors is bidding on their brand name.

There are still 2 different ads going to their site, one to .com and one to .co.uk. Google pretty much recommends merchants to do this now.

With this issue, you are probably best speaking to your Tradedoubler contact directly. The worst that can happen is that they dissagree and ask you to take down your ads.

Normally it mentions this on the program info page of the merchant (see Cotswold Company) for example as there is no mention see no reason for you not to go ahead - they can always ask you to stop but you may find that your tracking link goes to the co.uk site where as they (the merchant) are using the com site (in adwords the display url and destination url have to match so if the tracking link goes to co.uk it should stop an ads you set up with a com display url) - this way the merchant can get a couple of ads for their sites appearing
