    Anyone looking forward to January?

I'm not sure whether to look forward to the new sales or be scared of the recession :cry. I guess well all find out in a weeks time!

Anyone else thinking/worrying about it or are you enjoying the Christmas and carrying on with work to keep busy?

Sorry if i sound a bit off, went to the enterprise park and just happened to pull up outside a closing Woolies and a closed branch of MFI sat next to each other it got me thinking.....

Seen quite a few boarded-up superstores lately down this neck of the woods. Saw two prime spaces next to PC World and Currys boarded up earlier.

MFI and a Focus store is closing close by. The light at the end of the tunnel (I suppose) is that a new retail park is due to open a few yards down the road from there and as far as I'm aware, all units have been snapped up.

Give it a few years and I'm sure, no - hope , everything will return to the way it was, though with a notable loss of brands such as Woolies.

    Time will tell.

I'm looking forward to January. It's supposed to be a good year for UK tourism this year, so who knows... could work well for us.

If the media shutup about all this credit crunch stuff, people would forget that they supposedly don't have any money and thus go spend money in the shops rather than waiting for massive sales, which probably don't exist in many cases.

People still have money as per the retail sales figures coming out today which show massive and sometimes record sales growth for Boxing Day in the larger shops, thus showing that actually most of this is a blip caused by people hanging on to see what they can get for less. Eg: why buy a new TV for £400 when it might be £299 next week.

All it really shows is that large shops are run by accountants who haven't the first clue how real people think [hence why they go bump], many shops are paying stupidly overblown rents and the supposed "very low prices" that a lot of the chains claim are total gibberish if they can do 50% discounts pre-Christmas.

So my Christmas message is simply - "don't panic Mr Mannering" well unless you're a large chain in which case Frazer was right "We're all doomed....!".

Btw, HMV are doing the entire Dads Army collection for £40 instead of £100.
