Holiday review website needs incentive partner

Hi all,

I run a holiday review website and want to increase the amount of reviews on the website by offering an incentive to encourage people to write a review.

I was thinking of offering an Ipod every month or 2 for the best review but as people are in the market for holiday I would much rather it was holiday related E.G vouchers or a free holiday etc.

Does anyone know of or work for a holiday company that offers such partnerships incentives?

Thanks,
Lee

Why not ask some of the major tour operators if you can supply a discount code for them to people who submit a review!

Just a word of warning with the incentive, plagiarism! Once you offer the incentive, you should paste passages from the review into Google and see if the review has been lifted from another holiday review site. You will be surprised how many are just taken from another site and presented to you as original.

Hi Lee

It is only an idea but you might do better to try and reward people with non holiday or travel items, that wy the holiday industry will not be your bread and butter. If I was Mr Cook from Thos Cook & sons and I was giving you incentives then I would expect something back, not to read a review saying my bathroom was mouldy in one of my hotels, yeah the hotel was lovely maybe.

Only an idea, but when people donate to your website they do expect something back, if however you showed you was impartial then people would talk open minded, p[laces like Currys etc offer discount codes, why not say fill in a review and we will send you one, there are various discount code websites out there so you could even give a choice where people decide what reward they want.

On another note as the last persion said you do get copies of reviews on these websites and I am sure someone copies and pastes them in doing their rounds.

All the best anyway..... Gerry

Re: Holiday review website needs incentive partner

Thanks for the feedback guys, appreciated.

I'll look into both sides, I agree about the fake reviews though, something that I try to keep an eye on.

In regards to giving incentives then I do agree about the website needing to be impartial as otherwise people wont trust it so a "sponsored by Thomas Cook Competition" may look bad.

I guess as I am not a big corporate company I'm trying to look for a partnership as I can't afford to go out and byt loads of tokens or gift vouchers to give to people everytime they post a review. But I really need to boost the amount of reviews on the website quickly and the only way to do that it to make it more attractive to people by giving them something back.
The offers that you talk about, like with Currys do you get them for free?

Thanks for the help.
Lee

Tour operators do have budgets for competitons with affiliates, however you would have to justify to them that it's a benefit to them, which in reality is sales!

I'd look at doing something different to attract the attention of the users.

the-booker's spot on. As soon as you start getting traffic you'll get hotel owners adding their 'reviews' which always compliment the food, bar snacks, rooms, cleaning and reception staff by name.

The reason sites like holidaywatchdog / tripadvisor / holidays uncovered etc get used, is because they filter out this sort of stuff (or try to, to an extent). Also means most of them have staff and content teams, not quite a quick and easy 'add a review' and your sorted sort of site.

But also very profitable and useful if you get them right, which has been proved this year.

And as Pete said, theres always room for this sort of thing. But you need to put yourself in the shoes of a travel merchant, think of a good reason for them to put up a prize work in the region of Łk.

Hi Lee

Thanks for the message you was welcome.

Logic has it that not everyone realises that there are voucher discount websites out there, they shop at Argos, Currys etc without even giving it a thought. So you could give out free codes, you could give out free codes from whatever you felt like promoting, if your website was succesful then merchants would be knocking on your door.

So if you became an affiliate for say Argos and you gave out 20% discount vouchers, however to accept the voucher they have to click a link on your page, then you would have a 30 day cookie from them so whatever they ordered from Argos you would get the affiliate rate from, you are happy and they got there voucher just for writing a review.

You could have a little high street where people choose what shop or shops they want a discount from, yeah hotels will put in good comments but because you have stayed away from holiday brochures you will look innocent anyway. You can't stop people from doing it and if they do and spend their voucher on an affiliant you will get commission as well, then if you feel guilty put it in a charity box.

Without doubt I wouldn't mind a little advert,

"Next time you need a holiday in the UK, do what we do and visit like2Stay"

Anything I get back from it I assure you you'll have your share, I always try and be fair and thats how business grows, I can't give you a link because I have to be completely neutral, but I am more then happy to give you a share of anything you bring my way.

All the very best..... Gerry

Hi all,

It's not "another review site" as mine has been going longer than Trip Advisor and Holiday Watchdog it's just that I don't have the resources or the backing to promote or market it
This is why I want to use an incentive to encourage people to write reviews to boost the amount of reviews which will hopefully lead to more traffic. The last thing you want on a holiday review site is for people to come to your site, search for a hotel and find no-one has written anything!

I know what you mean about hotel managers posting their own good reviews even if a place is bad but I guess once the website does get enough traffic then people will see that the hotel has more bad reviews than good and make their own mind up.

In regards to what the "partner" would get for giving the incentive then a holiday for 1 as the winner would only get a voucher against it and not a free one plus the avertising of being promoted on the home page with the competition with a link.

All feedback welcome.
Thanks
Lee

Re: Holiday review website needs incentive partner

Hi Lee

I think it was refered to review because of your title on here. Whatever the nature of the website I think if it has been running already and you can't get the traffic then an incentive partner might not be the answer because you have already stated that there isn't much traffic for a partner, If you gave away a car every minute it won't matter if nobody is aware.

Shout about your website, you need to get people to visit it, I started by going to a well known auction site, purchased some blank keyrings and printed off inserts, I then asked a question every month and the answer was easy to find by visiting my website, the freebies and free competition websites did all the promotions for me, all I did was a draw every month and anounced 6 winners, It did well and I got a box of pens made and did them as well, not only are you talking peanuts but the stuff you give away is nothing but advertisment material.

Then give people a reason to come back to your website, behind the brochure could be anything that is a brochure, you could give out the opening and closing times for legoland, you could write down where the promotions are, you could do ride reviews, you could say what is new, one of the affiliate companies even has a legoland merchant on their books, so people could enter legoland into the search engines, find your website and it has all the opening times, toilet reviews, is there a mcdonalds, is the car parking busy, is it suitable for a wheelchair, what days are busy, then suddenly there is a box where I can order tickets without queueing in that hot sun, there is your commission, half in your pocket half on pens.

You need to concentrate on what you are doing and keep that information up to date, that is why you give a personal touch and are not just another review website (or whatever it is) you need to know the latest. I know that Haven Holidays Caister Camp has stopped doing Half Board, that is the personal touch, when someone is in the travel agents and someone is trying to book that and then looks up and say's they don't do it anymore let me look at the alternatives. But if you know your stuff then people will come back, there are holiday companies online, on adverts, teletext, tv magazines, so why bother, because we all offer something different, and most of all we hope people will tell others and also come back themselves.

Just consider your brochures and think about hotel brochures, pub brochures, activities, places, I network with Bitesize Britain you won't get county or place brochures from me and you won't get holiday accommodation brochures from him, but when you've ordered your county brochures from him my link then pops up. This is something you could consider, these theme parks have pizza places and fast food places you could tie them in with vouchers and reviews as well.

Back to my comment from yesterday you need to be seen as neutral, you need to give out prizes away from the industry that you are involved with. I am doing reviews on cars and giving away a VW Golf, we know what we would think.

I have now wrote 2 very long answers to your question, always remember that however much someone knocks something if you believe in it then that is the reason. Sainsburys use to be the market leader but Tesco never gave up and how many supermarkets still move in to the same areas. Also look at Mr forte well known for Trusthouse Forte, he is about to open up his first hotel in Leeds, how many people would say "oh no not another hotel" his reply would be that mine is different.

Coffee time.
