Cookie tracking lifetime

Do live cookies get extended on a new click, or do they run only to their original expiry irrespective of later behaviour?

In a normal tracking environment they get re-written and re-extended to the life of the cookie period.

Just trying to get a handle on what a fair assumption is and therefore how carefully we'd need to check case by case.

It's almost universal and personally I won't work with anyone not doing that way.
