Question New Travel Programme - trying to gauge interest

Hi Travel Verticle,

buy.at is launching a new programme with a large holiday booking site (I'll keep the suspense by not revealing who yet ) and i wanted to gauge the interest from the content guys out there.

Because of the tracking scenario, we can unfortunately only operate on a CPC basis. We ran a programme for Cheapflights a couple of years ago that offered 10p for an entry click and 10p for an exit click as commissions, and it seems to have been picked up by affiliates quite well.

What are affiliates thoughts on running this new programme on a similar CPC structure? Would it take off? Will affiliates want to be a part of it?

Thanks for the help all, give me a bell if you want some more info - I'll see what i'm 'allowed' to tell you

Cheers,
Dan.

Re: New Travel Programme - trying to gauge interest

Depends what you can offer - if they can offer a full realtime XML feed then yes I'd be interested - if it's just for banners etc then no just forget it.

Oh, and I'd want the feed available on day one, not promised as it was for Cheapflights but then never materialised (or at least if it did materialise no one ever let me know...)

Please clarify for me how this works. Presumably an 'entry click' is a unique visitor, what's an 'exit click'? (A non-bouncing visitor?)

Re: New Travel Programme - trying to gauge interest

Generally an exit click is someone visiting one of their advertisers

For example if it was travelsupermarket you send traffic to them, and if someone then clicked on an advertiser you would get a click commission.

If you send someone that just looks around travelsupermarket but never actually visited an advertiser you wouldn't get any commission.

my guess would also be travelsupermarket

My 2p: I can see how CPC may be a way to circumvent many of the flaws in CPA (phone leakage, tracking failures, cookie stuffing, users on multiple machines/browsers etc etc).

But actually I'd still prefer to stick with CPA (and work away at those issues). I like the concrete evidence that we've done a good job for the user and the client that CPA brings, and I like knowing the value of the business we've brought to the client too.

That said, if your client is more a content aggregator than a true 'merchant' - ie it's not a booking site - it's probably not a good programme for Wizard anyway, I think our users would benefit better from a link directly to the product owner. So it's probably irrelevant!

I'm with Lawcom and mattg. I personally prefer to get a % of the sale (and preferably a good one, too ).

Was that a hidden clue as to who it is, Dan, or just a deliberate red herring to throw us off the scent?
