    Hi

Recently I've had to switch hosts due to massive issues (won't go into it now
that I had my previous one.

    I decided to try GoDaddy...
Transfered one of my domains and added wordpress.

I'm having problems with connecting to my site via FTP.
I've tried their own 'File manager' but it doesn't seem to upload anything.
BTW I'm using the ACE FTP program downloaded from the internet.

In the GoDaddy Help pages it explains what info to add in the fields for the FTP to connect to the host/site.
Problem is most of these fields don't taslly up with my FTP program.
Spent hours trying different combo's and nothing works.

Asked GoDaddy for support and they just sent me the same help page:td:td

Can anyone please help me with this?
    Doing my head in!

    Thanks
    Mike

These are the field terms Godaddy refer to:

    FTP User Name
This is the user name for your hosting account.
    FTP Password
This your password for your hosting account.
    Web Site URL
    http:// www. example.com
    FTP Site URL
    ftp:// www. example.com

Here's the fields I have to fill out on my FTP.

Please correct me if I am wrong

    Server Godaddy.com
User ID I'm putting my user name here.
Password Obviously putting my password here

This is where I am falling down!
What should I be putting here?

    Local Folder
    Host folder

    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi,
I'm hosting all my pages on godaddy and don't have any problems so far.

    You must do this:
Your host is your domain name ( yourdomain.com not http://yourdomain.com ) not godaddy.com

    Password: your password
    Username: your username

I,m using FileZilla FTP and it is really simple.
    Cheers,
    Tomica

    Hi Mike,

    (a) Are these the settings you refer to:
Uploading Files to Your Web Site - Help Center—Knowledge Base and FAQ
    https://imagesak.godaddy.com/assets/wh/ace.jpg

    (b) Did you add/change the name servers on your domain to point to Godaddy?
"Transfered one of my domains and added wordpress."
Note that for any domain name, it can take 12-48 hours before you can use it from the new host.

    (c) Are you sure you have the correct password? If not call GD.

    (d) What error messages are you getting when trying to connect?

    (e) Finding your Server FTP address:
"(1) Log in to Browser Update Page
    (2) From the Hosting menu, pick My Hosting Account
    (3) In the center of the page you will see a list of your host accounts. To the right of each will be a "Manage Account" link. Click it.
    (4) Now you should see (among other things) a series of numbers identified as you Host IP Server. That is the FTP address you should use.
    (5) If you don't remember your password (not the same as the one you use to log in to godaddy), you may have to call their support number."

    (f) If its a shared hosting, then here's an article that may help using GoDaddy's control panel:
How to FTP Files on Godaddy Shared Hosting Servers?

If all else fails, be persistent with their support - call & email and ask for a step by step set up guide

    Good Luck.

    P.S.
GD are Ok for domain registration, but not got a great reputation as hosts.

Well you have choose go daddy for your hosting and now you will have to pay for that. I wont suggest Godaddy hosting even to my enemy.

When you have so many good options for hosting than why you go with godaddy.

It seems that you had a very bad time with them.

Could you let us know what exactly happened ?

    I would agree.
Go daddy has some serious issues.
    1. You cannot open more than two ftp connections to them at the same time; this can be a very big problem when uploading may files - working on multiple sites..
    2. Their control panel sucks
    3. I have had enormous trouble getting some of my sites to work with them... their "fancy" security disables most complex scripts from working
    4. Their help is pathetic - it's like banging your head against the wall
    5. I've heard that if you have registered a domain using them, they reserve the right to confiscate or cancel it if they feel it's been used for spamming etc

Recently I have switched over to hostgator, it's been a whole new story ever since :tup
