    Hi,

    One of my client wants to have the "dedicated server" set up done in the UK on the new "dual Opteron" computer that they have recently bought which will be placed in the rack to host a very big website in a coming few days. So far, I am using the reseller hosting from different web hosting companies and have no idea on how exactly it works and how to host a website on something similar. All I have at the moment, is just an IP address and the admin password.

    Can someone guide me step by step to make it work.

    The server has followings done at the moment;

    1. IP addresss have been assigned to the server with the installation of the following programs;
    a. Server 2003 Standard
    b. MySQL 5
    c. PHP 5
    d. IIS 6
    e. SMTP Service

    2. All the ports have been blocked apart from the followings;
    a. Port 80 HTTP,
    b. Port 443 HTTPs,
    c. Port 3389 Terminal Services

    3. The server has 3 partitions; C:, D: & E:

    I seriously have no idea on how to move forward :scared and would really appreciate if you can guide me to make it work. Hope to hear from the experts, who've already gone through the similar situation and managed to make it work.

    Cheers,
    Mike...

    I am trying to connect using the "Remote Desktop Connection" but not really sure what to enter in "Username & Domain". Also, do I have to install Xampp on the server to access the phpmyadmin or will it work without it too. Its just too confusing. Can anyone help....

    I am also trying to access the same using,
    https://IP.ADD.RES.SS:3389/ but it seems to be giving me the "Network Timeout" error. I think I need to try something else.

    I would highly recommend that you find yourself a Windows server administrator and employ them to secure the server and get it configured for your needs. You may also want to buy into their services on a monthly basis and have them keep your server running efficiently and up to date.

    Instead of purchasing a full fledge unmanaged dedicated server and hiring a Linux/Windows System Administrator to manage the dedicated server, sounds a very expensive setup. I'd suggest to consider a fully managed Linux/Windows dedicated web server. There are many dedicated server provider offering dedicated servers with Free Server Management service. No need to hire a System Administrator to manage the dedicated server any more. The overall server cost would come down and you would also be happy with the final server cost. Also, you can heave a sigh of relief as the servers would be managed 24x7 by the server provider.
