I run a small email newsletter (<1000 subscribers) which seems to have issues with 'bounces'. There are various reasons given in the bounce messages received, but is it a possible tactic for email servers to 'pretend' that a recipient doesn't exist?

All of the subscribers have given explicit permission to receive the newsletter, as part of a snail mail survey.

I'm using PHPList on a shared reseller account using CPanel and WHM. I'm capable enough of maintaining the list and doing minor admin things, but the technical nature of email isn't something I'm familiar with.

Bearing these things in mind, what steps can I reasonably take to ensure that my newsletters aren't confused by the recipient's server that it is spam?

    Hello,

There few major things that you need to take into cosideration.
    1) Firstly make sure your Mail server IP has rDNS set correctly, if not contact your DC and set the rDNS entry for mail server IP to point correctly to mail server domain.

Secondly setup and existing email address when use such forms to sent email.

Third make sure you have SPF record entry added correctly for your domain.

This should reduce the problem of your email marked as spam.

Make sure it's double opt in and you follow the rules about unsubscribe options in the footer.

Ask people to add to their contact book too.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

Is it fairly straightforward to ensure my mail server's rDNS is set correctly? How can I check?

I'm not sure I've understood your second point properly - 'use such forms to sent email'?

    Hello,

Check the who.is of your IP it should point to your mail server.

Regarding sending emails from form ..you should make sure the email address that your are using as sender should be an existing email account.
Most spammers use non exist email ID.
