If they're in your name, then you may have problems with claiming back the VAT (if you're registered).
Might also have problems with offsetting the registration / hosting costs against profits.
Probably best to give your accountant a quick call.
I've just formed a Ltd company and with one of my domains being due for renewal I was going to change the Registrant Name to the Ltd company but Nominet want £35.25 to do this.
Just wondered if it makes much difference? Is there a benefit in the domains being registered to the company? Or just registered to me personally?
Or does it not really matter....

Those who can do, those who can't talk about it
Its a pretty outrageous amount of money asked for by nominet - not nice multiplied up by a lot of domains either.

Crazy money! Get yourself a ukreg.com or totalreg a/c (they're both free to set up) then you can change all the admin and owner details yourself. You'd have to transfer the TLDs (.com .org .net) in but it's worth the hassle to be in control.Nominet want £35.25 to do this.

Thanks for the comments folks - like ianm said it might be best to get them transferred to the company so that there is no paper work hassle but like Mogga says it's expensive when there are a number of domains involved.
Thanks for the suggestions renegade but these are .co.uk domains and it seems the only way to get these details changed is to go through nominet.
Fraser is correct, only Nominet can change the owner’s name of a domain name. I am a Nominet Member, have been since 1998 and they don't even let us members change the owner details of the names we own and control. I find it shocking that they as a monopoly can charge what they like and it's well over the asking price for such a simple task, but then other Nominet members with just a couple of hundred domains think it's ok.. Leaves the rest of us with thousands and ten's of thousands of domain names with no choice![]()
I have recently done the same, Thinking about changing but I think I will own it as an individual and rent it to the company.
Would it not also be worth considering how valuable the domain itself is worth? What happens if you want to sell either the domain or the company? What happens if the company goes under - if the domains are in the company name, you would lose them.
I would guess that if the domains are any good, either because they are generic (one word or two, not 5), or because they have brand value, then the £35 is a small fee to pay to get them registered in the way which best protects your interests.
I can see what you mean James!!! You have some absolutely stonking one word domain names... how in the f*ck did you get so many, what dropcatcher service have you been using or do you have a nice contact at Nominet![]()
I want that one...
Supercod- have you thought of reporting them to the Monopoly's Commision?
(having a screw em, sue em, stuff the world kinda day)
