I know you can view your site before its live with cPanel, something like:

    http://12.345.67.89/~sitename

if you were hosting sitename.co.uk with them, is this right? Just I cant get it to work wondered where im going wrong I just get the hosting companies 404 page.

Its not sitename but username, though they could be the same name for both.

Cpanel only allows 8 characters in the user name and no numbers.. ie a domain like 24bigfathotdogssittingonalog.com wouldnt work as..

    http://12.345.67.89/~24bigfathotdogssittingonalog

so would have to be somthing like

    http://12.345.67.89/~hotdog

otherwize, check your sites dont resolve to another ip.. you may have this site on its own ip.

Ping your domain to make sure you have the correct ip, if you havent done already.

for this username and sitenames the same so that okay.

just moved host, so all I have to do is change the domain name nameservers (using 123 reg) to the new hosting peoples, yes?

I cant ping the domain, its broke. Its all got a bit messy, I just get the 404 no page thing for the main domain.

So mysite.co.uk doesn't respond, I have changed the nameservers to get to the new host... but its not working and when I try to get to the site through cpanel I just get the 404 like I do through the domain. Help, please

Yes you just need to change the nameserver records 123 reg.

    Things to check..

has your domain propagated. ie does it fully resolve to your new namservers.

You could check this using http://www.dnsreport.com that will show you if it resolves from their location ie in the states somewhere.. so also run pings and traces from the uk to check.

If you have ssh access you could also dig your name, doing somthing like

    dig mydomain.com

If you cant ping the domain, check that you hosts hasent blocked pings and traces.

cheers for the site... I get a lot of failed's.

These probably mean something to you but ive got a warning on Glue at parent nameservers and a fail on my Lame nameservers?

I have lame namservers!? What do I pay these people for!?

edit: ill PM you the report rather than posting everything thats wrong.

Is the 'default' document set up to the same page as your old host?

If your website is all working except for the main domain then I suspect that your default document may be different from you 'index' file name.

morleymouse, did you say you had used another domain successfully with these two namservers?

It looks as though your hosts havent added this new domain to the server.

Yep theres no A records for your domain, you need to ask your hosts to add this domain.

Unless you have a reseller account (or similiar) then you should be able to add them yourself.

I've found it easier to use 123-reg's nameservers, rather than those of my hosting company. You can add / amend your a records via the 123-reg control panel.
