  uk-shops.co.uk

uk-shops.co.uk is for sale on SEDO.co.uk - the seller wants £5k.. I am tempted to offer maybe half of that, what do people think, I mean in terms of affiliate marketing is it any better than uk-best-shops.co.uk for instance?

However the name definitely has kudos - we could make the selling price back in a month once the site has been running about 3 months, quick where is Mogga, I need some commonsense thrown at me I think!

I wonder why the seller doesn't use it him or herself?

5k?
wow.

erm. you know I'm going to say no. Yes you probably can get the money back but its an awful lot...

You might not get people to remember the name as it might get confused with ukshops etc -

Why they not using it? Good point. Maybe its been google blacklisted?

I have to say, I think £5k for that is a bit steep. It's not even particularly memorable or easy to spell (that hyphen...).

I'd try and find an unregistered domain, or find a detagged .co.uk name and grab that instead.

yeah £5k is way too steep - but you got to agree it is a damn good domain name. I bet someone pays £5k for it, for a few affiliates on this board that is pocket change...

I don't agree, actually. Don't think it's that good,
and never really understood why someone would pay a lot
of money for a domain name.

Ok, maybe www.shopping.co.uk is a good domain name
but uk-shops? (Don't reckon hyphenated domain names
are any good, despite the fact that most of the domains
I own have hyphens, in 'em).

Anyway, I'm rambling...

Steve

Feel free to bid for www.shopsandshopping.co.uk , too- yours for a small island

To be honest I think that some of the "best" domains are not necessarily related to the site content (eh?) - e.g. elephant.co.uk - okay, so they have the "memorable"* tv ad campaign, but the domain does rather slip off the tongue, as opposed to some-name-maybe.whatever ..

google.com vs searchengine.com etc..

Word of mouth and ease of err memorability (?) that's the one...

Having said that a quick shufy through my own records show that I've got 70-odd active domains with a hyphen in them at the mo

Duncan

*okay, if memorable means "So annoying - I really want to take the elephants' cane and stick it up that whiney blokes' ar$e"

the-uk-shop.co.uk - thanks Pete - pay me £50 and I will take it off you as a favour.

I can confirm someone has bid £4k for uk-shops.co.uk on SEDO, I can't tell you who it is though its not me...

I can't believe anyone would pay that much.

So if the .co.uk version is worth £4k, how much would the .com be worth?

I bought the .com version thinking it was a decent domain name, but nothing special. I've not put a 'proper' site on it yet, just a few shopping links to catch any type in traffic, and there's not much of that so I haven't updated it since before Christmas.

Sedo have valued UK-Shops.com at £2,500.
If anyone wants to make me an offer around that level I'll consider it.
