Is up for renewal middle of next month. Should I email the person who owns it and ask to buy it?

Is the domain being used?

If not, I wouldn't bother - chances are they have forgotten about it and will let it expire.

If you email them they may:

1. Re register the domain as they now know it has some value and hold out for more offers or stick it on one of the sites for auction.

2. Re register the domain and sell you it at an inflated price.

OR

They'll happily let you have it for a small fee

These are really hard to call nowadays with all the latest "dot com goldrush back on"

You'd be best putting a snap/backorder on it.

Enom do them for $35 now if you dont get it then you can use it on another one. Let me know if you need an Enom reseller account.

There are loads of different companies that will try and get you the name,

Its whichever you want to use. If the name isn't really that special then it may be worth waiting. If its a .com then it will go into Redemption Period before going into Deleted. If its .co.uk it will be Detagged and could take forever to become available again.
