I use the non managed servers from oneandone, i did try the managed server but you have to host large databases on ther database servers? so i could not get my main site to work.

I can't remeber the exact details but its something you should check with oneandone if you are use databases, also they weren't too keen on giving me a full refund and kept losing my cancellation faxes, in the end i went over the 90 days by a week and they gave me 1 months refund after hours of arguing on the phone.

Although i use oneandone for almost all my hosting and think the price and products are excellent, cancelling contracts and transferring domains has been a nightmare with them.

Never used the managed servers but on a basic account I've found 1&1 ok but they are a nightmare if you need to contact them about a billing issue or domain transfer.

Also I don't think the servers are actually UK based so check that out in case it influences your decision.

  1&1

One of my own boxes is there and i've not had any problems since joining them - the stats are very basic but you can access the raw log files so can use whatever you want....

The onlien control panel is excellent - but i have heard moving names away from them is not so easy but haven't tried....

Ben.

I am looking to buy a new server in the UK at the moment to replace my tired machine which is at VI.net in London.

I have had enough of their lousy service too and so are looking for alternative hosts. Had a quick look at OneandOne but that Managed Server sounds a bit like a Virtual Server (shared server) solution? Problem I find with Virtual Servers is that many of my sites rely on MYSQL and with shared servers MYSQL is usually physically located on a different server to the shared webspace which can cause slower data retrieval or sometimes dropouts due to connection problems.

Is that the case with this, is it a shared solution?

Currently looking at the Dedicated Servers option at SupaNames.co.uk, anyone recommend them?

I bought a new server in the States in December for my stateside focused sites and the terrific level of service and professionalism of some American hosts (in this case Dreamhost) is something that UK hosts could do with a lesson or 2 in!

Ben.
I moved a few domains away from them and it was effortless! Very smooth and only took about 3 days.

Cheers!

Kieron

One and One are quite mean with their data transfer allowance for their dedicated servers, and it can be costly if you go over the limit.

Their basic managed server gives you only 10GB a month. If you use more it costs £0.005/MB. They quote this figure in megabytes instead of Gigabytes so that people won't realise how expensive it is.

If you use an extra 10GB in a month you'll have to pay an additional £50. It would be cheaper to get two servers!

Maybe your not used to moving domains, it takes 10 seconds to switch a DNS record, 3 days is unacceptable for most.
