  Nominet System designed by idiots

I own a number of domain names and every 2 years have to go through the farce of completing the Nominet paperwork. Where did they get the idiots that designed the system!

I have most domains on one set of registrant details so why can't they devise a sysem where the domains are linked to one set of details. Its a joke.

Does everybody go to the trouble of completing the registrants online as its a right pain.

You mean the really complicated forms you have to log on to the site do something with a password and then email etc etc etc? Its a lot of effort - think I've done some but got very bored - we only used to have to ignore filling in a form and sending it back. Eee, how technology advances.

Ok then! Are there any others (apart from me) who actually fill these forms in?

I make sure that these are all filled in now, whether it be work related or home.

The new system is much improved and quicker to use and (speaking from recent experience) it is possible to update details for a couple of dozen domains in an hour (as opposed to one domain taking several months under the previous system!).

Last year I had paper work go to an old home address and new occupant took a look at the site and thought that he would get himself a chunk of that. Didn't get away with it, but it was a long messy process to sort out.

If you think your names are worth protecting, it has to be worth 2 mins of your time to keep details up to date.

I have been a Nominet Member since 1998, have more domain names than I can even remember and have never ever filled in one of them stupid forms. Nominet is all about making easy things as hard as they can, the whole company is run with the attitude if it's worth doing, it's worth making sure we need at least 10 members of staff to fill a pointless role.

I am sure my postman is less then happy at the amount of mail he has to deliver from the exact same people, one day they are going to work out that it's cheaper to stick 300 off letters in a box and send that 1 box instead of paying for 300 individual letters I never open to be sent.. Then again one day they might do away with the letters altogether, however I don't hold out much hope.

Must be great running a monopoly

Yep, ignore the forms. I dont even think its compulsory any more - previously certificates were sent out which were supposed to be returned.

I got around to counting my domains a few weeks ago and it was over 1300 - so I'm definitely an addict and to stay sane I avoid Nominet whenever possible. Recently they held up a domain transfer of mine because I'd OVERpaid the transfer fee by a whopping 75p. This meant they sent me a long letter explaining that I had to resubmit the correct amount or they would cancel the transfer. In short its a joke shop.

Rant over.

If Caroline from Silly Jokes was in charge they learn a thing or 2 about running a real business. Like I said the problem is they are a monopoly and so they have no need to improve. As what are you going to do, go elsewhere for your .uk domains?

I gave up even taking part in the Nom-steer mailing list that all members of Nominet can take part in, only problem is just a handful of the people that take part have a domain name business with over 1,000 customer.. the rest live in a fantasy land of 100 customers (all business) and don't know the first thing about dealing with the problems that come with dealing with the public and having loads of domains to manage.

Funny thing is a few of the affiliates (and a couple of the merchants) on this forum (me included) actually have enough votes as a group to get anyone we like elected to the PAB, just who would bother doing that as I know better way to hit my head of a brick wall than to force myself to attend a meeting every month to do that.

I've never filled one in and I don't open the envelopes anymore either - just file 'em and forget 'em.
