same name?

Hi

Im all new to this and i think iv made my 1st mistake already.

I have just registered ukshops-online.com and now i notice that there is a site already called ukshopsonline.org who are already advertising shops as in a directory.

i was thinking about doing the same but will it back fire on me if i use the same name as them? i.e ukshopsonline or will i get away with it if i use ukshops-online?

well the domain isnt exactly memorable, so I take it you'll be trying to get most of your traffic from search engines, in this case it wouldnt make any difference how close your domain name is to the other. As the user is clicking through to your site, nothing being typed in so no mistakes to be made.

if you had shop.com and someone else had shops.com then you'd want to start worrying as it could easily be typed in wrong, remembered wrong etc

i've just bloody done this too......i just got widgets.com and someone else has widgets.co.uk

the person with .co.uk has done bugger all with it.....at the moment anyway

the domain is with no spaces or dashes and all generic names.

The only down-side to this is that if mine takes off first, theres might get the odd type in everynow and then......but if they do better than me......which they might as i have a sneaking feeling i know who owns it....i could get the odd mis-type in ;-)
