Are you basing price solely on bandwidth? What you are purchasing is a service, not a product - so value should be your most important considersation. Quality of the service that is provided is the key.
When deciding on your web hosting provider, you are not just comparing storage and bandwidth allocation. You are literally comparing reliability, performance and customer service!
You should be looking for hosting solutions that give you the "best value" for your money. It is interesting to find out what the consumer considers cheap, good value or expensive. At price point, what would you consider cheap?
Had a server with them once, but it wasnt a dedicated server it was a virtual server in disguise!! ... but there cheap!
I learned my lesson on that.
Competetively priced, yes. However what they are selling is "unmanaged" servers, so in short they will not provide any hand holding technical support. With unmanaged hosting, its pretty much a do-it-yourself service... if you don't know how to maintain, secure and administrate a server your going to require a system administrator(which can work out costly).
For anyone that is serious about their web presence, I'd recommend a "Managed" service such as www.rackspace.co.uk. On the other hand, your requirements did specify "cheap" and so a Virutal Private Server plan does sound ideal for your needs (however we currently do not have any VPS plans in stock).
Charlie, would usually totally agree with you, which is why we are paying almost 5 times the above price for bandwidth on most of our projects. Peace of mind costs.
For this particular project it is a lot less important though, as it will be mostly used for online development / testing rather than as a public site.
Ste : Not had much luck with rackshack in the past, although a lot of people seem to swear by them.

We have always gone down the unmanaged route in the past, but are moving away from that with new servers now. Main reason is that our sys admin is on long term sick leave and it sometimes takes over from the work that makes money.

Must confess to not knowing much about VPS, but was reading about this on your site last night. Might contact you soon about these as they do sound ideal for some of the work that we do here that I am not directly involved in.
Frostie :: May have been the thread I was thinking of, but thought it was about dedicated. Still an incredible deal though. Does make you wonder how sustainable it would be if everyone started using 500 gig a month though.
Looking at some of these prices, I may have to get someone to review our hosting arrangements this year. I really look after the jewellery sites, but we have other stuff spread across 6 dedicated / colo servers and a few other places so there are probably savings to be had.
