Can anyone recommend a really good, reliable and cheap web hosting resellers package?

What I'm looking for is to offer free web hosting to animal rescue centres, not based on sub domains, most of who will have small static paged sites, but others will require databases.

I am thinking of linux based servers, php, mysql & perl support. No restriction on database sizes, as I could sell space to commercial parties in order to fund the costs. I have been looking around at the likes of Host Europe, who want to charge £30 odd for registering each domain, and 1 & 1 who put a 100mb restriction on databases.

Costs? - Well the site has been running for just over a year now and has been successful in what it is supposed to do, ie rehome animals, but as for generating income and being self-financing - ha! This affiliate lark is a lot more difficult than I first imagined. Anyway, I ain't got a lot so would like cheaper but not to compromise on reliability.

Would be really grateful for any suggestions - on web hosting that is

    Cheers

If server location isn't an issue then try hostgator.

    Approx £13 p/m for..
    unlimited domains
    5gig storage
    50 gig bw p/m
no restrictions on mysql (size or number)

comes with the usual Cpanel stuff and also WHM so you can set up their accounts with a single click.

Thanks. Will take a look. Also came across Heart Internet (www.heartinternet.co.uk). Has anyone heard anything about them. Offering unlimited bandwidth and space, as well as domains.

I was hoping to keep it in the UK as I believe that this might have an effect on positioning from the likes of Google when being searched for. Also would it have an effect on response times if the audience is mainly UK based?

In the politest possible way, they are lying I'm sure if i slapped my radio station on there and ran it with a modest 50 concurrent listeners at 120kbps they would pull the plug in seconds... there goes that unlimited bandwidth.

You are right, which is why i asked if location was an issue. It depends on how competitve the search term is in the long run i guess. I have a few no.1 spots on google.co.uk using a .co.uk name but hosted in the US. I'm more interested in the US traffic though as that's where the search figures are.

I presume the animal rescue centers are in the UK so you would be right to go with UK hosting.

I'd it's neither here or there is you're on broadband. There is a difference but providing it's a big host and has a reasonable connection to the internet "backbone" then you're talking milliseconds.

    Hope this helps a little.

You're right about the bandwidth, but they do have exceptions - such as streaming and large file downloads such as mp3s, etc.

Hostgator did look very nice, and the control panels look very similar to some supposed UK hosting sites - do you reckon they are just using hostgator and selling on the space?

    Thanks for your advice

I have always found the UH Hosting are very good.

    http://www.uh-hosting.co.uk/services...eller_hosting/

They do a starter package for £5.99 per month with 15 domains and 16Gb of data transfer per month. Good support to.

I've got about 50 domains hosted with Heart Internet using the Reseller Account, I've got mixed views on them right now, yes they are cheap and disk/bandwidth isn't an issue, support are quick to respond to issues, but the servers appear to be getting slower.

(and i've PM'd you about your sites).

Have a look at the reseller packages on www.meirhosting.net - I host most of my sites with them now - switching from more expensive (and usually more unreliable) hosts over to them as they expire. Their support is fantastic - I had one query answered in less than a minute! And because it's a reseller account you can host as many domains as you like, as long as you stay within the (pretty generous) limits. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I have just changed over to meirhosting.net. The support I have received in the very difficult transfer has been second to none. They are a UK host based in Stoke on Trent. I am looking forward to a very good working relationship with them.

    Not expensive either.

Yup, they are really good. The Meir in Meirhosting is 2 minutes down the road from me, though I don't have anything to do with them. I honestly think that David, the owner, just sits in front of the computer waiting for support calls all day every day. If they had an affiliate program I'd be rich by now because I refer loads of people to them and they are all really pleased!
