  Question 1&1 hosting...server locations?

Hi All,

Ok, sure this has been done before but here goes,....sorry!

1 - are 1&1 servers located in Germany?
2 - If i have a .com there will it show in searches from UK in Google?
3 - .co.uk's are fine and show on the web and uk searches?

help appreciated..cheers, Tom.

1) Not only are their servers in Germany but they are a German company!
2) Probably not if you mean search results based in the UK
3) Yes

Newly registered domains now all have .co.uk servers so you're ok.

Older ones have .de so you're right that .coms don't appear in UK only results.

I've tried to get mine changed but it seems the only way is to transfer the domain away from 1&1 and then back again.

I can't afford to have sevral days downtime so this isn't feasiible.

If any one has got round this please let us know!

Personally I wouldnt touch this company if you're after a half decent server and service...

We made a big mistake using them for one of our sites, on a supposedly 'dedicated server' where they were unable to change a simple setting to allow us to operate a comparison service.

They then refused to help swapping to another server, and we lost hundreds of pounds. Total joke.

1and1 are great until you have a problem or they decide you have a problem.
5 years ago I would recommend them, but now they are of a size that the "technical support" team haven't a clue as they have either just been recruited or in a call centre god knows where even though they insist that they are in Slough.

1&1 have a thing about Detagging domains names (.uk)

& then you have to contact nominet to retag it £15+VAT plus in this time the domain is dead!

Cheers Lee
