It is very reassuring to hear from others that they have successfully moved servers and not experienced drop in SERPS.

I thought it was very important to keep same IP. ie. move IP to new server. Are you suggesting that this is not important and I could safely go with my preferred option 3) above? ie. it is not important to keep same IP and I could move site to completely different host and IP.

Well setting up your own dns server is very straightfwd. To me it just makes more sense to prep a server with its own dns before using it. Rather then using the datacenters own.

If your sites TLD matches that of your nameservers then you will get quicker look up and resolve faster.. ie mysite.co.uk should goto ns1.mysite.co.uk and ns2.mysite.co.uk rather then a .net or a .com.

Also from my own experience with serps nameserver is taken into account by G.

It looks alot more professional to run your own NS particularly if your reselling hosting.. ie you dont want your customers sending their sites to your datacenter when they could be going to your nameservers.

In order to run your own you just need two ip's and then register your nameservers with you domain registar.

That's interesting. So, you think it's better having your own nameserver address rather than saying having the domain registered on Enom's nameservers? Any evidence of this or just conjecture?

Just bumping this back again as I'm also interested how it went in the end?

    Cheers

I am curious too. I am superstitious about how Google reacts to any changes to sites. They sometimes punish people for the most innocuous things. I wouldn't put it past them to give a site a "black mark" for daring to change IP addresses!
