Emm.... just thinking to get a dedicated server, have done some researches and find it costs at least around US$79 for a Celeron processor...

I am not a professional and haven't get a dedicated server before, using reseller plan now but desperate for root access and full control, and of course higher performance.

Any expert would mind spend a minute and give some suggestions? Which host do you think provide the best and what kind of hardware do you think really worth the money? Any cheap, valuable ideas?

Thanks a lot for your time here. Cheers and have a nice day.

We use Dedipower and Xcalibre and the latter while a bit more expensive are considerably better in terms of performance and support for the same spec machine

Thanks OLBG, have seen those two before.

In fact I am more bias on getting from US or oversea simply for cost reason. Problem is there are too many choices available in the US hosting market, and having spent 2 weeks on researching them, I am still unable to make any decision. As my case is not urgent indeed I am waiting for any special offer.

Haven't try China yet thought maybe they would have really cheap and good offer as things "made in China" tend to be cheaper.

Any idea what different, I mean in real performance, would AMD, Celeron, Pentium have? If I get a Celeron 2.4GHz and Pentium 2.4GHz, would that make any big different? I have totally no idea about AMD - what's Athlon, Seprom, and so on... how do they perform? Any suggestions please?

From my experience, US tends to provide better services aren't they? Used a hosting from UK and a VDS from US before.

Cheers and have a nice day.

    Found host4you:

    AMD Athlon + PLESK 7 + 80GB HD + 1000GB Bandwidth

All for US$62 per month. I think it's ok apart from the service/support is a bit tricky as they do not have life chat or phone support, only thru email.

Indeed if anyone is thinking to get the server from host4you think again. I really have lots of problems with their support and the lastest could be found from my thread here

While I contact the support it takes 24 hours for them to respond and suggesting something not solving the problem. After two days they can't figure out what's wrong they suggest to do a reinstallation but refuse to backup the stuffs and want me to download all database to my local machine (is this the typical practice i wonder but I don't so as it doesn't make sense for someone who provide free resintallation without backup).

Their last mail simply ask me to back up the stuffs and would do the reinstallatio by Monday - ANOTHER DAY DELAY to my plan! Indeed I was planning to do some important update for me website during this weekend and now because of their stupid support things messed up!

    What about uk2.net (http://uk2.net/servers/) - 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Windows or Linux, 99UKP Setup + 29UKP / Month (Over 3 years) or 39UKP / Month (Over 1 year).

    Cheapest isn't always the best!

My US servers are from The Planet basically because I can rely on their network, support and quality equipment. UK servers will cost you a couple of hundred a month.

Whatever you decide, get yourself a server admin company to manage the server for you. It won't cost much and is really worth it for when things go wrong..and things will go wrong!

Have seen yours before it's a real deal I gotto say but I am not really willing to commit to any contract, i.e. pay 1 year in advanced. Apart from that I think I would go for you. Cheers anyway.

I agree. TP have been pretty good with us, we were with UK hosts but as soon as our site started pulling over a gig of data a day the bandwidth prices shot through the roof, we've got P2800s from TP with Dual Xeon 2.8 chips, 2 x 73 GB drives, 2gb ram and 2000gb data a month for less than the rip off britain version.

TP support is good, 24/7 and you can get a tech there to go and plug a console into your box to see what's kicking off on it. We also get DRAC - Dell Remote Access Control so reboots and so on are simple. Plus, it's a month by month deal.

Also, you might want to consider EV1servers.net - we have a backup box there.

    I'd not touch UK2 - lol - or ukfast
