Not sure what implications/requirements are for .it domains tho.
Have been surfing the net and the sites I've found charge €40 per annum to register .it domain names. I know their prices are inflated because they charge £20 a year for UK domains.
Anybody know of an English language site from which to register European domain names at reasonable prices?

Thanks for that link. However, it doesn't actually allow you to register a domain name. Spent a while surfing the site and eventually came to this page which says "contact a provider/maintainer (Internet Service Provider - ISP)".
Anybody know of a reasonably price registrar to register Italian domain names?
I believe the requirements are that one has to be an EU citizen or company, so .it domain names are less restrictive than those of, say, France which only the French may register.
ooooooooooooo so many nice .it names available!
from what i found, to register a single domain you have to enter into this single contract thing at about €200
or to be like a registrar type thing and do up to 60 a year its €2500
both annual.
but after that domains are only €4.91 each + VAT

I seem to remember from my days working on support that all .it domains are managed by Fax. And you have to stipulate the name servers when applying so you can manage the domain. I can’t be exactly sure but it takes a few days to get one registered.
This is probably why there are few that support/register the domain as costs are swallowed up in paperwork But it may have changed as it was a few years ago.
So many knowledgable people in this forum!
Lycos.it is flogging .it domains for about €8 inc. VAT which seems very reasonable.
Only problem is site is in Italian (which don't those bloody Italians switch to speaking English? Should be illegal to have a website in language other than English).
Will have to look into the terms & conditions. morleymouse, where did you see that info?
Faxes, contracts blah blah blah are too much hassle for just one domain name.
Just in case it is of interest to anyone else, found this + this at Netnames:
"Registration is ONLY available to 5 categories of entities located in the European Union:
(1) European companies
(2) European Professionals
(3) European Public bodies
(4) European Associations
(5) European Individuals
The domain name does not need to be derived from or reflect the name of the European entity.
The is no restriction on the number that may be registered to European entities which possess a VAT number.
European Individuals may not register more than 1 domain name.
The European entity will be made the legal registrant/owner of the domain name.
To complete the registration NetNames will require the following information:
(1) A letter of authorisation (to be provide by NetNames) to be signed by the proposed administrative contact."
