DNS setup/Zone records

Seems like I have stumped the sys admins on this one and thought that maybe one of you guys may have the answer.

Setting up zone records for domain and have the following:

mydomain.co.uk MX mail.mydomain.co.uk
mydomain.co.uk A 123.456.789.99
mydomain.co.uk NS ns.serverdomain.co.uk
ftp.mydomain.co.uk A 123.456.789.99
mail.mydomain.co.uk A 123.456.789.99
www.mydomain.co.uk A 123.456.789.99

Any ideas where things are going wrong?

This using a web interface cpanel etc, or editing the zone file direct?

E-mail reaching the server but not getting through to the accounts. Even the tech guys are baffled by this one. I think it is a setup error but this is the standard entry as setup by Ensim so 'should' be correct.

I don't ever set up DNS records, but isn't the whole point to provide translation from a domain name to an IP address? Shouldn't the line:

mydomain.co.uk MX mail.mydomain.co.uk

provide a translation to the IP address of the mail server, i.e. something like:

mydomain.co.uk MX 123.123.123.123

Hmm sounds daft but have you set up the mail accounts by defualt most *nix servers will reject any mail not going to an existing account in other words catch all is not enabled.

System admins at the datacentre have spent 3 days on this now. Crazy!
