Can anyone recommend a good hosting company with servers in the UK?
The most important things I'm looking for are UK based technical support with real people I can actually call up and speak to. I use Microsoft FrontPage so I need whatever hosting I choose to be compatible.
I'm also useless at all things technical so I would need help in uploading my site etc.
So excellent technical support, reliability and servers based in the UK are what I am after. Any recommendations?
Cheers!

Hi,
we love our hosts, www.34sp.com based in Manchester. They have a support IRC channel which is manned by staff most of the day and night and lots of other geeks only to happy to help with the oddest of questions.
Servers are based in London, and the only major outage we've had in 2 years was for 6 hours, and was a Network wide failure, so not really there fault!
The help I've received from the staff in the IRC channel is worth several times more than the price of our hosting.

I have a dedicated server with Catalyst2 (the server is in London). They're a smallish outfit which has its advantages and disadvantages, but they *are* very good on price.
I also have a reseller account with Donhost. They have a *very* efficient tech support department. Server is in Leeds I think.
Finally, I have a shared hosting account with UKSolutions near Birmingham. They do slightly more specialised hosting too, including shell access, gaming servers and that sort of thing. They're very good too.
So.. I'm happy with all three![]()

We've been using www.titaninternet.net for quite a few years. They started as a family business and have facilities in Telehouse & Redbus. The MD Lee Christie has a very hands on approach and is always available to take calls. I can't fault them. The only thing you don't get is 24 hour telephone support, but in all the years we've been with them its never been an issue. They monitor their service very closely and have never given us any trouble. I highly recommend them.

Im considering on my more minor sites to host them at home on the new telewest line when it goes to 10 meg
Apart from that my other sites are hosted by www.1and1.co.uk and never really had problems. www.names.co.uk is another fairly decent one.
Any more ideas? Ideally someone I can speak to on the phone as I need to transfer a domain name in too.

Yeh. They do look reasonable. Which package have you chosen for your hosting??
One I have been scanning around for a while now is http://www.streamlinenet.co.uk/wh.php and unless i've missed something with the unlimited bandwidth, amongst other things included, it looks quite appetizing.
Has anyone else used Streamlinenet for their hosting??
The problem with 1&1 is that their servers are physically located in Germany, which means that Google might think that you're a German site rather than a UK one.Originally Posted by monk-i

I use http://web.compila.com. They have servers in the UK.
we use TDM (http://www.tdmweb.com) A small team but a very good service (good ticket based helpdesk with direct mobile backup for dedicated members)
Very good on price and knowledge with options to host UK/US.
A good example of a company who's site may not the the best in the world but who's product sells through recommendation because it is rock solid and underpinned by Coreix.
Another option might be to go direct to Coreix (http://www.Coreix.net) but at the end of the day I want to focus on the business and would rather pay for a managed service.
i have just signed up to penguin they cost £9.99 per year. my son is making my website and we just wanted the cheapest hosting preferably british which they are...
Rackspace are one of the best, www.rackspace.co.uk
Not cheap, but you get what you pay for, no 1&1 type nonsense there. You can get a guy on the phone on Xmas day or at 4am if you need to.
