Hi,

I am looking to move my site to a UK host (any recommends on who) but I have a little question.

I dont need much a Linux PHP set up is fine.

How do I know that thier servers are actually UK based?

They could be a UK company with a reseller account for US servers.

Just ask the hosting provider where their servers are based.

(or ask him for the IP address and check it)

It's a good question you ask and critical in determining if you will be listed in Google UK results. I know so many people who are hosted with 1&1 UK and they are flabbergasted when I tell 'em that their sites' servers are in Germany.

There are several tools available on the Internet, this is a quick and easy one to use: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/city.ch

Find out what their IP is and trace it.
