Recommended UK webhost with normal rate telephone support please

We're looking for a quality, reasonably-priced web host with servers in the UK for one of our small-medium sites.

Requirements:

- shared linux/unix hosting. Minimum 5Gb a month bandwith and 2Gb storage.

- cpanel

- telephone support and it should preferably not be a premium or national rate (0870/0871) number. Support staff should be based in the UK

- uptime guarantee.

- backup sites on a regular basis (and store these backups in another location from their servers)

- looking for a large company which has been in business for at least three or four years. I know there are many wonderful small hosts out there, but we prefer the reassurance of a company which has, say, 50 staff members to ones with only 5. I've suffered a lot with small hosts.

When I usually post about webhosts, people usually chip in and say something like, "This one doesn't have telephone support but..." but our requirements are essential.

I use a Namesco (Simply) resellers account and have done for a number of years.

No one ever seems to mention them in threads like this but none of my sites (or customers sites) have ever missed a beat in the last three years. I believe they use servers housed at Docklands somewhere.

Telephone support is 24 hrs with an 0845 number. Only had to call a few times but the service is always prompt, friendly and efficient.

They may not be the cheapest but I'm more than happy with them.

Thanks very much for that Nosmo King. Am going to investigate them. What's Namesco's control panel like? I'm looking for cpanel as I'm experienced in using that.

Don't know what the control panel is but it's one of the best I've come across. Very easy to use and very fast.

We are a UK web hosting company... but we dont provide telephone support. we have a webmaster forum and email support for our customers and we havent had any compliants....and thats not because they cant get hold of us...LOL

I use an excellent hosting service, medwayhosting.com, for one of my accounts.

The telephone support is excellent but unfortunately not 24/7 more like 10(or 11) am through to 2am. He also provides messenger and email support.

He has a webcam on his site so you can check to see that he's working!!!

i have used web host in the past and never had to telephone support. because IMO if you need to have to keep ringing up your hosting support to find out whats up with your servers...then surely they must have unreliable servers. However our servers have negligable down time... so what on earth would you need to ring us for anyway...

I use them too. 4Gb plus 30Gb bandwidth for £16 a month, full CPanel and all the bells and whistles. The hosting provider is based in Medway with servers in Medway and Florida.
