  1&1 Dedicated

Hello,

I'm thinking of moving all of my websites onto one server, not sure if a VPS would be the right thing or a dedicated.

Looking at 1&1's prices for the starter dedicated is in my budget and I was wondering if any one had any thoughts on them, if their dedicated servers are any good etc.

If not could you point me in the direction of a good VPS provider

Thanks in advance

Hi, I found their customer support to be inadequate - e.g. waiting 1-2 weeks for an e-mail reply or ringing their customer support number and getting people who didn't understand anything more than the basics. I use 1&1 for buying domain names, as they're cheap and then I use Meir and Clook for the hosting. I prefer them too, as they both use CPanel and it's much easier to set up things like phpmyadmin, which is automatically updated whenever a new version comes out.

1 and 1 servers are absolute rubbish, I had problems from day 1 - dns did not
resolve, they are slower than their shared hosting computers, support are rude
and useless and wont support apache etc.

It was cheaper for me to walk away from a six month contract and go with
a professional hosting company.

I already suggested Clook, who offer VPS. I already suggested Meir, who offer a dedicated server.

If search this forum, as I did, to find out who's good and who isn't and like me, you'll find they are two of the names that members generally like.

I have a dedicated 1 and 1 server. Customer support is useless, their answer to any technical problem is to reimage the server. Saying that though I have had no significant downtime since taking it out over 4 years ago. You really do get what you pay for with dedicated servers, if your not technically minded on the server front I would suggest looking somewhere else or a managed server instead.

Have a look at www.forum2.co.uk

Yes, avoid one and one if you can for hosting.. horrible support.

Wefusion VPS was a nightmare..after 100s of emails, phonecalls and wasting a few hundred pounds, I gave up on it and moved over.

Clook are quite good..no problems so far. If you want VPS outside the UK, solarvps and powervps are ok. Good uptime and support when I was with both of them.
