I've just tried logging in all day then at around 3pm it let me. I checked the new FTP and it worked fine so changed the SQL passwords in the relevant site files, checked the sites and they worked.
I'm not convinced that I won't have to do it again once the Royal Mail stuff arrives but hopefully the sites will be live over the weekend .. hopefully!
Hope you could also login Top banana, funky monkey data seems to be safe now.

absoulutely stunning support, everyone is a proper engineer, Hosted with them numerous sites over the past 4 years of all sizes from shaed hosting to multiple dedicated servers and they have never let me down.
Was a bit wary about starting this slating thread but glad to see so many people agree with me. I notice they took their forum off a few weeks back on the support section - I wonder why!
Indeed the entire problem was all related to that security lapse a few months ago. Now they have changed everyone's passwords - fortunately I had changed my control panel password.
Those who haven't will have to wait for a letter to arrive before they can do anything.
I have a reseller account with them at the moment, and like many am looking to leave. Is there a limit on the number of domain names that can be held on a virtual private server? (VPS)

It all depends on the hosting provider you chose. You can host unlimited domains on our VPS as long as you have enough resources on your VPS.
I received an email from them a few weeks back asking me to change all my passwords because of the security breach.
I did and havent had a problem with logging in or email access yet, but what worries me more is what caused the problem in the first place.
Does anyone have any idea what hapened?
There were a number of holes in the fasthosts network, primarily because its so huge that there were quite a few unpatched machines.
Someone obviously used on of these holes to get into their inner network, to download their customer data. I was informed years ago that passwords etc were stored in the data in plaintext, and this obviously hasn't changed judging by the fact that according to the fasthosts email some of the FTP accounts were breached. Alternatively, if the accounts weren't stored in plain text, the passwords were cracked (which really isn't that hard now that computer speeds have massively increased, and what was once a near impossible job is now much much easier due to the increased processor power now a days).
