Re: Fasthosts - a complete joke

even my mum rang me earlier and said asked if I used those "fat hoster guys" as she'd seen it on the news or in newspaper, and thought what a mess it was,

which is bizzare as she has the understanding of level of a red setter when it comes to the interwebby

yes, moved to UKfast and gone to dedicated server, incredibly efficient company and answer the phone within 3 rings.

Not cheap, but after the experience with Fasthosts, I have come round to thinking that you get what you pay for!

My business lost more over the few days that the site was down then a new dedicated server cost in 12 months. You have to value your online business and make a decision from there.

Thumbs down Re: Fasthosts - a complete joke

i agree totally with everyones complaints. I used to use fasthosts but i could never seem to use some basic php code like phpnuke or other affiliate software so i decided to call it a day with them. Something to do with register globals or php.ini

but anyway i've found united hosting which is awesome!!!

Re: Fasthosts - a complete joke

Despite me promising to leave Fasthosts I only, eventually, did so today.

The company have let me down greatly and I would urge all serious individuals on here to steer clear of them.

Apart from the complete fiasco of the hacked accounts late last year my sites have been very unreliable - often going down for around 12 hours at a time on an almost fortnightly basis.

Recently two issues have culminated in me closing a reseller account and a regular linux account.

1. The constant changes they make to the server - rendering many php programs and hence databases completely unusable from one day to the next.

2. In the reseller account you are now 'allowed' 5 free MySql databases. I had one. Fasthosts charged me £30 for this. When I asked them to remove the charge they said that to qualify i had to 'delete' the database and then 'reopen' another one.

For a company that I probably pay around £1500 a year for their services this was the final straw and a damning indictment of their shoddy 'customer service'.

I have now taken my business elsewhere, to 1and1 in fact, whom I have been trialling for a number of months.

It took me a while to leave Fasthosts. Don't any of you make the mistake of signing up.

don't get me started. I've got a few domains effectively "locked" by them as I can't get in the support section or my account
