  Uk Web Hosting

I'm looking for a cheap UK host (php-mysql) for testing a geolocation script.

I'm using .com domain hosted in the US and want set up the UK subdomain in the UK.

I've been using Genius Host (£10/year) but their "upgrade" of PHP doesn't allow the manipulation of jpgs and their 24 hour support hadn't sorted it out in a week.

Thanks I might give it a try although it doesn't allow subdomains.

I could host the domain on the uk domain and a US.subdomain on the us host not the ideal situation but ok for testing.

Maybe I'm not thinking of what you've got in mind but, as far as they are concerned, wouldn't the fact it was subdomain be irrelevant?
I.e. you are asking them to host sub.domain.tld, and as far as they are concerned that can essentially be the same as domain.tld, or domain.sld.tld, if you delegate authority in your DNS entries for domain.tld in such a way.

[However as I said, I've probably not got what you've got in mind, because my brain is currently trying to think 'what kind of geo-ip thing are you testing that plays off server location...'.]

Unless you are saying they only allow people to host direct registrations in the relevant public namespace? i.e. no customers using subdomains as their domain?

---

I used purplecloud a couple of years ago £10/£20 for a site that needed to be on its own and had no complaints.

There have been a lot of threads about gOOgle UK not properly indexing .com domains hosted in the US.

My idea is my domain.com/index.php (hosted in the US) does a redirect (using the geolocation) to a subdomain relating to the country of the user and each country's subdomain is hosted in the relevant country. So uk.domain.com hosted in the uk has uk content and will hopefully be picked up correctly by g00gle uk. Whereas up till now domain.com/uk wasn't.

You will, of course, need to make the necessary amendments to the DNS that's handling domain.com, so that sub.domain.com ends up at the right place.

But yes, as far as your UK host is concerned, what they are hosting would be sub.domain.com and you shouldn't need sub domain configuration issues from them - unless you want to go sub that sub...

Would this not be akin to bouncing some people, in terms of how G etc sees it.

Essentially this is going to be like doing domain.com (hosted in US) with domain.co.uk (hosted in the UK) but using subdomains rather than differnet domains.

I might not stand by these last two sentences, still thinking about this - and its very late.

I have considered that but I'm sure a lot of large corpotations do it. I know if Itype in G.com I get redirected to their .co.uk site even after deleting cookies. What's good enough for the big G is good enough for me
