Current good hosts?

I like to have my sites spread over a couple of very good hosts and have been using Meir and Clook for a while, But Meir have dropped off my "best hosts" list recently and i wish to move all my sites from them. (even thier support site is down at the moment)

Anyone recommend anyone?

I'd personally recommend NikkelHost - Goedkope Webhosting, Domeinregistratie en Dedicated servers

Small, but reliable.

Any specific requirements for your websites apart from 24x7 support?

Just RELIABLE hosts, just a name and ill do my research from there.

I understand that good hosts go bad, Meir have been playing up all day, i've emailed 3 times and they dont even bother replying.

I know I've said it before elsewhere but I can't recommend eukhost enough.

Their forum is certainly worth checking out.

Just my opinion - I'm sure there's more...

I second that about eukhost, we are trying them for some of our smaller sites. Got dedicated servers with them recently and the level of support you get for the cost is absolutely brilliant.

We still use Rackspace for all our main sites, they are excellent, but pricey.

we've always found DediPower Managed Hosting - Home have great, we've a couple of dedicated servers with them already and are just about to order an enterprise level one on Monday.

We are getting the 100% uptime guarantee, but should the unthinkable happen all faults are diagnosed and replaced within 2 hours or a replacement server provided within 1 hour of a customer request for it.

in the past they've done stuff for us that wasn't even covered on the SLA that we had, They once rang to ask the best time to upgrade some memory on the server so as we could choose when and would be aware of the 5 mins downtime!

the enterprise package with all the extras is still cheaper than the bottom spec package rackspace offered us.

the best analogy I can think of is that hosting is like picking a female escort ... you CAN get a cheap one for £50 but would you really want it !?

We found if you pay cheap (hosting!) you get trouble .. we once had a server that was down for a WEEK !!

Interesting that some of these responses mention eukHost with an aside saying that when things go wrong their customer service is great.

That's all fine and dandy but I'd imagine the test of a good host is sometimes when you have no idea what the customer service is like because you have never had to use it.

exactly, im looking for hosts people are 100% happy and have not needed support

Just to put my point into perspective (and to be fair to eukhost) : support has been there for me when I've got stuck on website build issues which required specialist server settings or indeed they have helped to show me where I had gone wrong with site coding (typically mysql errors - I'm still learning!). Support isn't just about faults, it's also for questions, queries etc

Never had a single problem with euk hosting themsleves.

Anyway, just my view. I hope you find a good one.

yeah eUK Looked good ..

although they are the ONLY host i know who charges teh same for a Linux Server as a Windows server ..

hmm thats put me off them
