I dropped Heart Internet ages ago because they sent me reams of spam and claimed they were allowed to under their TOCs. There are better hosts out there.

hearts servers sucked .. the admin area is complete rubbish ..

also with linux if you request root access you are on your own ( unless you pay for them to fix any problems that may arise )
ive got my old redhat cert so know my way round linux .. but everyone makes mistakes & you cant really get to grips with the admin area so root access only alternative

also have a windows box too .. guess what .. that sucked too !

    try fasthosts !
    £49 a month & £49 setup .. brilliant support !

I was thinking of trying heart as I had been recommended them. Seen much more good reviews than bad about them, incl one who said he had tried a LOT of hosts and heart were by far the best.

Reading this I took a quick look at fasthosts, but tbh they have far more bad reviews (incl Judge slaps Fasthosts for rubbish kit and support ? The Register) than Heart

Voucherz - have you gone with Heart?

I am looking for a host that is good and quick for database driven sites. hmm, probably doesn't exist!

I have had a Heart reseller account for over 3 years now and haven't had any problems with them.

I also took a linux dedicated server a few months back and its been great. At the same time I took a fasthost dedicated server and had a few problems with it at first, they also charged me 80 quid to turn on mod_rewrite.

Out of the 2 I have put my better site on the Heart server as I feel more confident with there support and server reliability.

Got my Heart Internet Windows dedicated server set up no problem.

Start up service was good (up within 1hr of ordering) - I didnt have to install anything, the server came prebuilt with all the latest security patches/fixes, had the latest framework of asp.net (3.5 sp1), and even had SQL SERVER 2008 pre-configured. Had my sites transferred within a couple of hours.

First impressions, all is well. So, we'll see how it goes, and if any problems arise.

I intially had the server on a FHs windows box, however the reason for moving was the fact I needed windows 2008/iis7 to support some of the new sites im developing. FH couldnt say when/if they'd be moving to windows 2008. So as the Heart/FH servers worked out to be the same £ pm, I decided to give Heart a go. They are one of the few (reasonably priced hosts) offering windows 2008.

    Bit of an update...

Had the Windows dedicated server with Heart Internet for a couple of months now, and all is well. Not had any hitches with connectivity or speed or hardware issues. Running a few aff sites on it, and SharePoint for a small intranet solution.

Heart seem to be expanding the dedicated servers by now offering backup space (which is a very good move).

I've been contemplating moving to a dedicated Linux box with Heart, but I can't see too many advantages right now - I'm quite content with my reseller account. I no doubt will move over eventually.

Quite shocked to see criticisms up heart ^^^^^ up there. They've been utterly excellent, and I find their systems and support to be really good - and I'm very critical as I support a data centre with over 300 servers in my day job - I know a good system when I see it!

Fasthosts on the other hand deserve to go bust, frankly. Mass password lock-out of a couple of years ago was inexcusable, and as said by others, they charge through the nose for even the most simple of jobs. Possibly the worst of the well known hosts in the uk, in my opinion.

If a web hosting company is offering dedicated server at the cost of VPS then one should clearly understand that the server is not managed and everytime the server provider is going to charge heavily to troubleshoot basic or critical technical queries. Such servers are usually good for the techies but it would be a nightmare for the newbies.

I've been using Heart Internet for several years, both with shared and dedicated servers. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy, their support is dreadful, they are of no help when needed and they try and force add ons all the while. I am gradually weaning all our business away from them. Use Heart Internet with extreme caution.

Would be interested to know how you are getting on with that dedicated Windows server with Heart as I am seriously considering them as Rackspace have fallen off a cliff in terms of service and support levels.

@GeordieGeek I also have a dedicated server with RackSpace along with the Heart Servers. Trust me, if you think RackSpace are bad, you will despair at Heart!

Whilst I've also noticed a downturn with the RackSpace service of late, I've struggled to pin down a quality alternative.

Heart Internet are not in the quality bracket, they are at the opposite end of the scale.
