    Hi all,

I've spent a few weeks setting up my first AM site in Joomla, hosting it locally ready to find a host to upload the database to.... then on further research noticed there are quite a few advocated of Wordpress for AM and now I'm torn! I can see benefits of both (and I've used both)

What are your thoughts on content management systems? Seems like there is a good level of support for both of these packages in terms of AM widgets and templates though I am slightly leaning towards Wordpress as it is so much more easier to use...

    Many thanks!

    D

    Hi

I would go for Wordpress over Joomla for ease of use and development. I haven't used Joomla for a while now but I did find it bloated and difficult to template as you want it. If you have time however look at Drupal as well.

thanks for the reply. i've opted for wordpress as i already use it on my blog so will try it now for a website; there seem to be more AMs using WP anyhow, I guess down to it's simplicity and ease of use, especially for the new AM.

I would stick with Joomla if you are going to make a content rich site with a community option and flexibility.

Wordpress is great to knock up a quick site, but Joomla is so much more powerful and customisable when you get over the learning curve.

Hi Aspirin I do feel Joomla has far more to offer however on research I've seen far more AM support for WP than for Joomla. Without the AM support for WP I would have chosen Joomla, as it is far more modular and seems easier, as a website to store content in manageable 'sections' and 'categories'. However for quick SEO benefits I have considered WP.

Another option I've looked at is using both! Hosting the Blog part of my website within WP and the rest of the website in Joomla - has anyone does this? Sounds kinda scary!

    Cheers, D

I've now installed and launched with Word Press. It was a close call but for any budding AMs out there, I'd highly recommend going with WP due to the large support forum available and AM customisation you can make.

Joomla can do much of what WP can do but as a new comer to AM WP is far easier and quicker to pick up. Definitely worth it for your first stab into AM. Once you've made a success of your first venture then by all means trial Joomla as it is probably better for a traditional website...

    Thanks for everyone's feedback

Different tools for different jobs, Joomla has a much higher learning curve but is much more effective once you get your head around the way it works. Wordpress is superb for people who don't want or need that much technical knowledge and from that point of view is great for people like affiliates who have little enough time in the day anyway.....

Just for the record, SEO in Joomla is a dream - and its easy enough to manage once you get your head around the basics, again its a learning curve.

I have used both and have found WP to be more reliable, easier to use and it loads faster.

Joomla is great for SEO as it is super easy to optimize each page differently.

ok so here's where i am with this debate.

I've launched my site in WP and after a month and some hard work on the SEO, site building and copywriting front, I've now reached an avg 50 UV/day which I'm well pleased with.

However, I now need to start building more depth in my proposition to take users on a journey using Persuasion techniques; my site does great, with the blog format of attracing visitors, however I'm finding Merchant section building not so easy in WP.

So my thinking is to use Joomla for the Merhant sections of my site (as Joomla is a far better tool as a CMS) but to continue the blog/homepage and Merchant landing pages in WP.

Has anyone done anything similar? How did this work for you? Or am I plain crazy to think this would work!

    Thanks, D

I have to side with Joomla if for no other reason than web security. Joomla's not perfect either and with either Wordpress or Joomla the more 3rd party add-on's you use the more likely you are to have some nasty holes in your site. However when reviewing secunia.com and other security sites in the past I've come to shy away from Wordpress whenever possible.

In either case be wary of what add-on's you use and where they come from.

The best joomla templates are right here.
