    hi

i've whittled down (UK based) hosting to the above 2. I'm looking to run Wordpress and would probably go for the 'medium business' accounts to run multiple websites (at some point in the next few years that is!)

anyone have any thoughts on pros and cons of the above?

    thanks in advance

    D

I know many are very happy with 1and1 but from my own personal experience they have been a nightmare :scared. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst....

If they treated everyone the way they treated me then personally I find it amazing they keep any business at all.

    Just one very small opinion.

    Best of luck

    Hi Jack,

I've looked at what's on offer and am quite impressed. Could you answer the following questions?
    - You don't seem to have the latest version of Joomla; if I needed this could I install this?
    - How easy is it to install wordpress add-ons/widgets? Not sure what version of Wordpress you have; how often do you install the latest versions or can I do this myself?
    - Are your servers UK based?
    - customer service is important; what is the standard reply time to emails and call wait times?
    - how do you manage major upgrade work (ie site maintenance)

Sorry if this seems a lot!:scared

    Thanks, D

Pretty certain GoDaddy are US-only, I had a VPS with them and the latency was ridiculous.

Coincidently, I moved from them to a VPS with eUKhost and haven't looked back Live support is excellent and I haven't seen many companies where their employees make such regular personal contact with the community. Seeing as Jack is pimping himself on here you do now have the right to harass him whenever need be :tup

Nick thanks for the positive endorsement! I'll await Jack's reply anyhow as I'm keen to find out and others in the forum may also find this useful but so far so good, I'm swaying towards them!

    Thanks, D

I second that endorsement from Nick, the website may be a bit shabby but the support and service is spot on. I've got a Plesk VPS with them that needed upgrading to PHP 5.2.x the other night - after contacting them at 8pm on a Sunday they managed to get it installed in under 20 minutes with all the necessary packages I needed. That was through a support ticket but theres always been someone on the end of the live support chat also, ready to help. They also don't seem to overload the servers with accounts (as far as I can tell so far anyway).

As for 1and1, use them as a last resort. I had to fax them once to transfer a domain away from them, they live in the dark ages.

Edit: On a subnote, if anyones looking for american shared hosting I can seriously recommend asmallorange.com.

Edit2: 10% recurring off with 'eukhostreview' discount code...(to sway you that lil more )

Well I think that I wasn't really the lucky one to get the best of the their (eUKhost) support as during my one of their support executive even threatened me to terminate my account for asking the reason of frequent downtime. :scared May be I shouldn't have had paid the whole sum altogether.

At the moment, I have my websites with GoDaddy and happy with the services.

That's interesting. I'm guessing from this there will always be someone having an issue with any provider.

If I base this on PR then I'd have to say so far I've heard the most negative comments pointed at 1and1, seconded by godaddy... I'm seriously considering eUKhost, so far looking good.

    Anyone have any other thoughts?

    Thanks! D

ok I've signed up to eukhost! I opted for the dedicated IP; whilst there is a very small chance that the single, shared IP could be blacklisted thus causing problems for all sites using the IP I've decided to minimise the risk in losing SERP rankings. anyhow, thanks for your feedback and help with this! and thanks for the discount code too :tup

    Hello,

Sorry for my delayed response. We can install the latest version of Wordpress or Joomla as per your requirements. Let me know if you have any questions

I have created a separate 10% discount coupon code for A4u members "a4ucoupon" which gives 10% discount on all our hosting plan.

Web Hosting Jury and Web Hosting Stuff are pretty handy sites for researching a potential hosting company as existing customers post reviews there.

I'm looking to transfer my existing domains to eUK from 123reg. Even though I've paid to register for a set time period, do I the have to pay again to transfer the domains?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm in the process of getting my head round everything.

    Hi bond,
You will have to pay, but the transfer process will add an extra year so you won't be out of pocket.

I.e. If the current expiry date is 1st March 2009, after transferring it will become 1st March 2010.
